SCHOOL 85 TO BE DEDICATED; HONOR LOOMIS New Structure to Be Named for Former City Music Director. Reminiscent talks on the carrer of George B. Loomis, former city school music director, and an unveiling ceremony will feature the dedication of the new public school No, 85, Oak and Arlington Aves., tonight at 8. The school is named for the deceased director. Prof. Charles Hansen will speak on “Loomis, Music Director.” His son, Fred M. Loomis, Indianapolis, will talk briefly on Loomis’ life. A portrait of the director will be presented to the school by his grandson, George. Charles F. Miller, superintendent of schools, and Theodore Vonnegut, school board president, also will speak. All arrangements have been in charge of the officers of the school Parent-Teacher Club, composed of Mrs. James H. Butler, president; Mrs. D. D. Fitzgerald, vice president; Mrs. Fred Haynes, secretary; Miss Dorothy Darraugh, treasurer; Mrs. Robert Drum, program chairman; Mrs. C. D. Croan, music chairman, and Mrs. William Kleifgen. Miss Hope Bedford, accompanied by Professor Hansen, will sing “Only a Rose.” from "The Vagabond King;” “Mother,” from “My Maryland,” and “To a Messenger,” by La Forge. HEALTHIEST OF CITY'S GIRLS IS TO BE NAMED Climax of Campaign to Come Saturday With Announcement.
The climax of a health campaign in which 1,500 Indianapolis grade and high school Girl Reserves have taken part during April, will come Saturday with the announcement of the healthiest girl among all the City Reserve Clubs by Dr. Herman P. Morgan, city health secretary, at the Health day celebration at the Y. W. C. A. The winner will be given a board of health certificate and a “prize” of ten days at the Y. W. C. A. Camp Delight on-White River. She later will be crowned Queen of May. Plan May Pole Dance The campaign has included examinations by the “Y” health education department, health lectures, daily “hikes to health” by all the Reserves. The healthiest from the nineteen grade school groups were selected April 21 by a staff of doctors and nurses of the city health board, headed by Dr. Henry Stygall. These will take part in a May Pole dance Saturday. They are: Erlcane Eastburn, Betty Ehle. Rosemary Sandburg. Nina Bell Ratcliff, Helen Littell, Emma Miller, Helen Boland, Mary Elizabeth Livingston, Irene Bentley, Jean Holmes. Beaulah Clark. Bessie Taylor, Emma Putt, Mary Tedrowe and Lois Le Saulner. BY KATHARINE CARROLL A musical program was held Tuesday morning for all the rooms that had not broken a traffic rule during April. All but three rooms were permitted to attend. Miss Helen Beck’s IB room has a perfeot record this semester. The woodworking class, under A. B. Little, is making scenery and the sewing class, under Mrs. Alice Duthie, is making costumes for the school operetta, to be given in May.
! on “Four Ideals of Girl Reserves.” The Reserve club of Harrison School No. 2 will give a play, “The Steamship Health,” in which Jean Farnell and Lois Le Saulner have leading parts. Others in the cast are; Dorothy Jane Patti, Mary Gayer, Dorothy Melham, Margaret Armstrong, Lois Armstrong, Betty Armstrong, Betty Crabb, Betty Lou Fulton, Emma Putt, Mary Alice Reynolds, and Ellen Koch. Eight girls will present a fashion show exhibiting the best clothes for girls from twelve to fourteen years.
