the I. W. W. and so-called “Save the Union” group from wedging their way into the Ohio mining situation. “We have had to imitate some of Russia’s methods and forget what wt learned in school about the Constitution; but in the last two days by so doing we have nipped in the bud the most menacing move in our whole year of the mine strike,” declared Prosecutor Paul V. Waddel of Belmont County. The “move” started several weeks ago, according to Waddel, and was climaxed Saturday in the jailing of fifty-one women who marched in protest against the arrest of six union leaders. In addition to the women, fortylive men have been arrested in the last week, jailed, and subsequently released on bond. Last Thursday Sheriff Clark Hardesty and his deputies were

called to the Mutton Hollow mine of the Shadyside Coal Company, at Lansing. Between 300 and 400 men had assembled. Singularly enough this is the only mine employing union men in Belmont County, although six others are said to be operating on a non-union scale. Hardesty declared he had to use tear bombs to disperse the crowd when they refused to disband. Thirty-six were arrested. After the arrests the women started a protest march on the jail. The women were released on their own bond after pleading not guilty, after being held in jail two days. Egg Show at Purdue LAFAYETTE, Ind„ April 27. MARINES MARCH TO SURROUND SANDINO

B.V United Press MANAGUA, Nicaragua, April 27. Large detachments of United States marines were reported to be advancing today in forced marches on the Pis Pis mining district, in an effort to block retreat of General Augustino Sandino's rebel army. Raids by the Sandino army on the Pis Pis mining area, which resulted in occupation of several mines and capture of George R. Marshall of New York, have resulted in intensive marine activity. The big observation planes held at the base here have been particularly active.

In record scouting trips, the planes have reconnoitered every bit of ground in the Pis ,Pis area and in some instances the planes, many of which are worn by constant use have established new service records for continued flying. None of the scouting planes reported sighting Sandino or any of his followers, which led to the belief the wily general may have withdrawn from the Pis Pis area. This, however, did not deter the marine march on the district and marine officers are hopeful of surrounding the rebel band.
