NAME FEDERAL COURTOFFICERS Sagemeier Takes Over Duties as Clerk. Albert C. Sogemeier, 140 E. Pleasant Run Blvd., today assumed his duties as clerk of the new Southern Indiana Federal Court. Sogemeier, who has been chief deputy clerk, succeeds William P. Kappes, who closed the clerk's office Monday when told by Federal ■Judge Robert C. Baltzell he would not be reappointed. Baltzell today reappointed the former Federal Court commissioners, referees in bankruptcy and other officials. Commissioners renamed include Howard S. Young, John W. Kern and Fae W. Patrick, Indianapolis; Don P. Strode, Kokomo; Charles Harmon, Evansville, and Clyde Randall, Terre Haute. Referees in bankruptcy reappointed are Carl Wilde, Indianapolis; Everett A. Davisson, Clinton; Charles F. Werner, Evansville, and Robert Kelso, New Albany. Commissioners were named for four years and referees for two years. Other appointments include Miss Luella Meyer, secretary to the judge; Owen Speed, Negro messenger; Oliver Bowers, bailiff. Sogemeier retained Kappes’ deputies, including Mrs. Anna Harris, Mrs. Thelma Riebeling, Miss Cecile J. Luters and Mrs. Lucy E. Hardy, Indianapolis; Mrs. Irene Muller, Terre Haute; Charles Harmon, Evansville, and Robert Morris, New Albany. CLYDE ROBINSON CHIEF OF GROTTO CEREMONIES County Treasurer Elected at Business Meeting of Order. County Treasurer Clyde E. Robinson was elected master of ceremonies at a business meeting of Sahara Grotto Monday night. The meeing was attended by 500 Grotto 1 members. Robinson succeeds to the post left vacant by the death ox Heydon W. Buchanan. Installation of the new' officer was conducted by Past Monarch CKhniel Hitch as deputy grand monarch, assisted by Past Monarch Lawrence, W. Drapier as deputy grand marshal. Monarch Charles G. Walsh announced that Chief Justice Lewis! W. Williams, Robinson and Walsh j will represent Sahara Grotto at the i supreme council convention at Richmond, Va., in June. Because of the loss of twenty drill j team members in the tragic cross- ! mg- crash last fall the Grotto voted j not to send the uniformed bodies to j the convention and to take no part in the competitive drill. CHURCH UNION ELECTS Presbyterian Christian Education Leader Speaks Here. The Rev. Williams Chalmers Coy- 1 ert, general secretary of the board of Christian education of the Presbyterian church in the United States, addressed a dinner meeting of the Presbyterian Union at the First Presbyterian church, Monday evening. Officers elected w'ere: D. H. Whitham, president; Henry G. Thornton, vice president; Giles Smith, secretary, and C. A. McKamey, treasurer. The Union will resume meetings in the fall. BLAMED FOR CAR CRASH Truck Driver Arrested After Two Autos Collide. Herman Jefferies, 34, Harmon St., was arrested for improper parking ; of his Standard Oil truck at 1143 Ritter Ave., today. Mrs. Keota White, 19, and her j two babies, Betty, 19 months, and Richard, 2 months, were riding witl i! White. The babies were unhurt, 1 but Mrs. White w'as cut and bruised and had to be taken to city hospital. INVITES RISK AGENTS State Insurance Group Suggests West Baden for Convention. The National Association of Insurance agents has been invited by the Indianapolis Fire Insurance Agents’ Association to hold its annual convention next fall at West Baden, Ind. If the invitation is accepted, the Indiana Association of Insurance Agents will hold its annual meeting also at West Baden at the same time.

Sogemeier had been chief deputy since 1922 and Judge Baltzell said he made the appointment as a promotion for meritorious work. TAXES ON SEVEN GAS, POWER COMPANIES CUT State Board Evaluates Concerns, Poor Business Blamed. Business of seven Indiana gas and power companies and one telephone company w'as evaluated Monday by the State Tax board for taxation purposes. Valuation of the Hope Light and Fewer Company was decreased from $50,000 to $25,000; and that of the Decatur Independent Telephone Company of Greensburg, was cut from $154,000 to $149,600. Decrease in business was attributed as the cause for both cuts. Other valuations are: Zoller Gas Company, Greensburg, increased from $55,200 to $60,000; Lawrenceburg Gas Company, increased from $6,000 to $12,000; Muddy Fork Gas Company, Greensburg, increased from $45,000 to $50,000; Sand Creek Gas and Oil Company, from $26,000 to $40,000. Valuation of the Citizens Gas Supply and Oil Company of Greensburg remained at $16,200; and that of the Napoleon Light and Power Company at $3,000. URGES BIBLE SCHOOLS Minister Stresses Need of Vacation Study at M. E. Church. The necessity of the daily vacation Bible School was stressed by the Rev. Elmer Jones, pastor of the St. Paul M. E.
