DENIES KLAN IS EORJOBINSON Some Members May Vote for Him, Says Smith Some Klansmen and not the Klan, as such, will support Senator Arthur R. Robinson for the Republican nomination for re-election to the United Statees Senate, Attorney W. Lee Smith declared today in a denial of the statement attributed to him _ Wednesday saying that he had said the Klan was for Robinson. “The Ku-Klux Klan is not indorsing any slate or candidate and will take no part in building political machines or organizations,” Smith declared. “Thus far the only concerted political effort being made by the Klan is to defeat A1 Smith.” He expressed the opinion that Klansmen probably will support Solon J. Carter tor the senatorial* nomination, but “none of them are likely to support Gilliom.” Smith, formerly a Grand Diagon of the Indiana Klan, is no longer an officer, he says, but makes speeches before Various Klans. He is scheduled to speak before the West Side Klan at Odd Fellows Hall, W. Washington and Addison Sts., tonight. In The Times story Wednesday, Attorney Robert W. Lyons, Richmond, Ind., was referred to as a former Klan counsel for D. C. Stephenson. He was not affiliated with the Kian leadership under Stephenson. SIOO,OOO PUMP PLANT MAY FALL INTO LAKE Indiana State Prison Station in Peril, Jackson Told. Indiana State Prison. Michigan City, is about to have its SIOO,OOO pumping station slip into Lake Michigan, prison authorities told Governor Jackson todal. Trustes Michael E. Foley, Indianapolis; John Moorman of Knox, and Warden Walter H. Daly called on the Governor to ask for SIO,OOO to finance construction of a breakwater. They told the chief executive that when the pumping plant was built at the prison in 1897 it was 200 feet from the lake shore line. Now it is but twelve feet and the high waves are washing the land away at the rate of three feet a week. UNCERTAIN ON WALB Ward Wonders if He or New North- { ern U. S. Attorney Will Prosecute. Information on the new Indiana Federal Court bill passed by Congress providing two Indiana districts was asked by Albert Ward, district attorney, of the attorney general’s office at Washington today to determine whether or not Ward will prosecute Clyde Walb, former Republican State chairman, and Valentine D. Weaver, former First National Bank of Lagrange president, at Ft. Wayne, April 23. Under the new court bill, a district attorney for the Northern district of Indiana, would be named to prosecute cases in that district. Walb and Weaver were indicted in connection wth failure of the Lagrange bank.

ATTACKS COAL PROBE Cooliilge’s Kin Brands Senate Quiz Effort to Boost Prices. Coolidge of Boston, chairman of the board of the Island Creek Coal Company, and a distant relative of President Coolidge. He -told the Interstate Commerce Committee the inquiry was ordered by the Senate at the request of the United Mine Workers for the purpose of increasing the cost of coal to 100,000,000 consumers for the benefit of 500,000 coal miners.
