SEWAGE PLANT 'AFFAIRS PROBED ! BY GRAND JURY .Witnesses Testify; Rumor * E. W. Johnson to Be \ County Attorney. Another probe and political show |Was put on today at the courthouse. It looked as though it would run & long engagement, probably not terminating until after primary day, May 8. Here’s what happened: Erwin McCullough, engineer at the city sewage disposal plant nd Paul Dunn, county councilman, testified before the county grand jury. It was reported in Courthuose political buzzings that Emsley W. Johnson, former special prosecutor, soon will be named county attorney by county commissioners. Plans for an “immediate meeting” of the county coucnil are rapidly being forgotten. Investigate Sewage Plant With the calling of McCullough, It was understood the jury was looking into management of affairs at the sewage disposal plant, which has been a “hot spot” in more than one city administration. Dunn is one of the vigorous opponents in the county council against allowing appropriations for carrying on the political probe. He declared many of the expenditures were “excessive” and a “waste of the taxpayer’s money.” The reported change in county attorneys came as a surprise. Clinton H. Givan, former judge, now is attorney and it is reported he soon will be let out and Johnson appointed. How the appointment will be brought about is a mystery even to those who claim to know the in-

side of courthouse politics. Although denying it, Johnson recently has been connected with the C. O. Dodson county faction, and if appointed will be the choice of Dodson group, it is said. Givan is considered a close friend of Commissioner Cassius Hogle. The commissioners must approve the appointment of anew county attorney should Givan resign. As to the council meeting, it was indicated several days ago the meeting would be held next Monday, but no call has been issued. It was expected that if the meeting had been called there would have been a great deal of George V. Coffin and Dodson factional fireworks. It was said today that the Dodson group has decided to let the matter drop until after the primary. The council meeting was to be for the purpose of receiving petitions on the SIOO,OOO road program, killed last fall by the council and to discuss the fact that the county buildings are not covered with enough insurance to protect the property in case of fire. 6,738 Money Orders in Month MUNCIE, Ind., April 13.—-The Muncie postoffice took in a total of $55,146.67 in 6,738 domestic money orders, according to the monthly report of Arthur B.
