The top remftined at $8.75 and animals in the bulk sold at $8.25 and up. About 6.500 head were received and 1,583 held over. Calves were 50 cents to $1 lower and spring lambs dropped sharply. Other material tended lower with normal receipts. The Chicago market moved with strength going 10 cents higher than Thursday’s best. The top was $8.75, reaching the Indianapolis level for the first time in several months. Receipts were estimated at 13,000 and .14,000 were held over from Thursday. Most Hogs Unchanged Heavy classes in the hog division on the local market were the only weights to change, material in the 250-350-pound class climbing 5 to 25 conts to sell at $8.25 @8.60. Middle weights, 200-250 pounds, were $8.60 @8.75, up 10 cents on the low end of the range. Other material was steady, the following quotations holding: 160-200 pounds, $8.50@ 8.75; 130-160 pounds, [email protected]; pigs, 90-130 pounds, [email protected], and packing sows, [email protected]. Cattle were weak to lower. Beef steers sold at $11.50@13 and cows at $7.50@ 10.50. Low cutter and cutter cows brought $5.50 @6.75, and bulk stock and feeders went at [email protected]. About 650 were received. Others Lower Calves dropped sharply, the best bringing [email protected], and heavy calves, $6.50® 10. Receipts were estimated at 900, slightly higher. Top fat lambs were $16.50, off 25 cents in a weak to lower sheep and lamb market, with 300 animals in the pens. Bulk fat lambs brought [email protected], and bulk culls, $7.50@11. STOCK VALUES GAINJNMARCH 100 Stocks Advance 11.5 Per Cent in Month. Bp Timeß Special NEW YORK, April 6.—Market val>e of 100 stocks compiled by Fraizer, Jelke & Cos., New' York, gained $2,589,610,000 during March, it was announced today. The total value of these stocks at the closing March 31, was $25,097,908,000, compared with $22,508,298,000 Feb. 29. This is a net gain of 11.5 per cent for the month and it establishes a record enhancement of these issues. The twelve motor shares included in the list, added nearly $1,000,000,000 to the total market values, with a net gain of 21 per cent over February closing prices. Industrials, including Radio, Westinghouse, Can and Nickel, which scored the heaviest gains, made a net advance of $260,830,000 during March, or 15 per cent. Gains were made by all groups in the list of 100 stocks. Both price rises and increases in outstanding shares last month accounted for the" phenomenal expansion of values. The thirty rails advanced $298,327,000 or 5.5 per cent during March. The chemical group of five stocks, including Du Pont, made a net gain of 12 per cent, while coppers and merchandise shares each advanced 10 per cent along with other smaller gains.
