DENOMINATION IS DROPPED BY CHURCH’S VOTE Fairfax Christian Church Pastor Outlines Stand of Congregation. Announcement was made today by the Rev. F. W. Sumner, pastor or Fairfax Christian_Church, North St. and Berwick Ave., that the congregation has voted unanimously to become nondenominational. A statement of the stand taken is set forth i by the pastor as follows: “We are nondenominational. ‘‘We care nothing for ecclesiasticism. “We seek the good of all and the injury of none. “Neither do we seek to establish anew sect. “God has given man superior being, delegating to him divine rights and possibilities, and when he once comprehends the power and resourcefulness of this supreme self within, he will become anew creature. Truth Is Overlooked “This truth has been overlooked largely or ignored in the struggle of ecclesiasticism and the contentions of materialism. “We teach nothing that is not already accepted by believers. But} ours is a change of emphasis, and that change alters the order of im- J portance of many things previously l taught. “In the main, ours is but a restatement of Christ's teachings from j a different point of view, that of spiritual life rather than doctrine. These truths, properly understood, will do more to transform and direct the life than all else. “God always has endeavored to make man understand that he is a divine being a God in the making. The Kingdom Within “Tills is the ‘Kingdom within* the possession and power of divinity. To possess this ‘pearl of greatest value’ is the most precious acquisition of j man. “Great faith never has been dis- 1 appointed. “For membership in our organization we lay down no qualifications nor make any requirements except that through your cooperation you prove yourself worthy of Christian faith and confidence. Our services are simple, but devotional.” STARK CLUB IS FORMED Backs G. O. F. Candidate for Prose- i cutor Nomination. A Stark-for-Prosecutor Club, backing the candidacy of Chief j Deputy Prosecutor Judson L. Stark ; for the Republican nomination was j formed Thursday at a meeting oi ! his followers at the courthouse. Ld Harris, president, outlined Stark's record. Ke announced headquarters are being opened at 515 Lemcke Bldg. Carl Plack is treasurer. NEW YORK RABBTtALKS Delivers Address Here on Feast of the Passover. Rabbi Steinberg of New York, addressing the congregation of the Temple Beth-El-zedeck, for the feast of the Passover, Thursday night, said the Jew in the middle ages, despite restrictions ~ J rights, was unbound in heart and spirit. City Pauses for Annual Good Friday Observance

Churches of All Creeds Are Filled With Pilgrims as Business Halts. Christian hosts, in Indianapolis and throughout the State, bowed their heads in meditation and prayer today in remembrance of the crucifixion of Christ. Churches of the city became shrines for pious pilgrams whose prayers during the traditional Three Hours of Agony, noon until 3 p. m., were offered up as from the foot of the cross on Calvary. Hymns were chanted, psalms read and sermons preached, but for the most part services were of a highly devotional nature,' consisting of personal prayer and meditations upon Christ’s sacrifice. • Downtown services were held at St. Paul’s and Christ Church (Episcopal), Roberts Park M. E. Church, Keith’s theater and St. John’s Catholic Church. Most of the neighborhood stores were closing for the three hours as were many factories. Employers in downtown stores and elsewhere permitted their employes to attend services. More persons observed Good Friday than ever before in the history of the city according to Dr. Ernest N. Evans, executive secretary of the Indianapolis Church Federation. A campaign for greater observance, had been carried on by an interdenominational committee of Protestants and Catholics for several weeks and results were fruitful, Dr. Evans declared. Twenty-five-minute religious service was conducted for 1,200 employes and several hundred custom-

CLAIM ILLEGAL USE OF STATE SCHOOL FUNDS Board Finds Money Running Low for 1928: Blames Wisehart. Indiana educators, members of the State education board, precipitated a stormy session at a board meeting at the Statehousc today when they found their funds running low. It was indicated that if expenditures continue at the present rate the board funds will be exhausted before the year is out. President Lemuel A. Pittenger of Muncie Normal pointed out that while the board rules provide for one part-time stenographer, two have been paid full-time salaries out of board funds by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Roy P. Wisehart. One is Miss Heenrietta Orr, \ daughter of State Auditor Lawrence | Orr, and the other Miss Mary \ Merill. Wisehart explained that this ‘ system was in vogue when he took | office and he merely retained it. | Other salary payments have gone to L. O. Slagle for “c npiling i school laws.” The total salary appt i priation ' under the budget is $4,000 and only i $1,949.13 remains, Pittenger pointed ; out. The year closes Sept. 31. “There has been illegal diversion of funds here,” President William Lowe Bryan of Indiana University declared. So a committee consisting of Chairman Pittenger, Dr. E. C. Elliott, Purdue University president, and Board Member Clifford Feun-

This latest style consists of long collars hanging down at the back and reaching to the hem. The favorite idea is to have the collar in some color contrasting with the rest of the cloak.
