PENNSYLVANIA VOTERS' LISTS TO EE CHECKED Handwriting Experts Will Seek Evidence of Fraudulent Registrations. BY LEO R. SACK WASHINGTON, March 30.—Two Washington bank tellers, handwriting experts, tonight will begin an examination of registration books of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to determine whether voters were fradulently registered for the Pennsylvania senatorial primary election of 1926. At the request of the Reed committee which is investigating that election, the experts will seek to determine whether names were written in the books by individual j voters or whether they were written | largely by a few individuals Another Senate committee is proceeding with the recount of the ballots In the general election to determine whether William B. Wilson, the Democratic nominee, or William S. Vare, the Republican candidate, was elected. The count has been completed for Allegeheny and Delaware Counties and one-third of Philadelphia has been completed. Another month will be required to complete for Philadelphia and ' Luzerene. Lackawanna and Schuylkill counties, where fraud also was alleged. Representatives for Wilson have discovered many irregularities, they claim, including three ballot boxes from Pittsburgh which contained no votes whatsoever. ACCUSE HAYS IN OIL FIXING FLOP (Continued From Page 1) before Senator Walsh went to Florida on Jan. 9, 1924, to get the confession of Edward B. McLean that l?e had not in fact loaned Fall the sum of SIOO,OOO. Secretary Mellon testified that he taw Hays in Washington some time during the early part of December. Newspaper files show that Hays spent the Christmas holidays of 1923 in Sullivan, Ind., and left on Jan. 3, 1924, for Hollywood, Cal., presumably as a result of the sensation aroused by the shooting of Courtland S. Dins by the chauffeur for Mabel Normand, movie star. He apparently remained in the West for several weeks. It seems probable, therefore, that his conference with Senator Ladd took place either at the time he saw Secretary Mellon or on some other visit to Washington before Christmas. It is impossible to secure Hays’ account of this alleged attempt to influence Senator Ladd, as he is now on the Atlantic, bound for Europe, where he will remain for several weeks. ' It is expected that the committee will recall Hays upon his return to testify, not only regarding his transaction, but also about other matters which recently have been developed by the committee’s investigators. ARREST THEFT SUSPECT Five Now Held in Terre Haute Mail Robbery Probe. Henry Wiggins, 31, of near Jasonville, Ind., wanted in the investigation of the mail robbery Monday at the Terre Haute Union Station, was arrested today by Postal Inspector B. F. Simcoke and police officers at a rooming house at 321 N. Capitol Ave. Wiggins was taken to Terre Haute this afternon for questioning. His arrest brought the number of susw pects in custody to five. Others include Calvin Holmes, 34; Carl Jennings, 23, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Tougaw, all of Terre Haute. The Federal grand jury will be asked to investigate. WOMAN BOOSTS JEWETT Mrs. John King to Direct Organization Work. Mrs. John King, active in club and sorority circles, will direct Jewett-for-Govemor Club organization work among women in the city, it was announced today by Harry C. Hendrickson, county manager for Charles W. Jewett, candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor.
