KEEP RECORDS, AID LONGEVITY, DOCTORURGES Says Each Person Should Aid in Prevention, Not in Cures, NEW ORLEANS, March 23.—How can the average man best take advantage of the recent advance in medical science and prolong his life as doctors have said he can prolong it? Dr. Frank Smithies, retiring president of the American College of Physicians, which convened here, gives the answer. “See your doctor about as often as you see your dentist,” he says. “Remember, it is far better to prevent disease than it is to cure it after it has a foothold. A business man who called in an auditor after he had gone into bankruptcy would be called a fool, wouldn’t he? Well, what do you think of the same business man who waits until he is in physical bankruptcy before he calls in a doctor? Yet that is what many of them do. "Certainly, after a man is 45 years old, he ought to go to a doctor at least once a year for a thorough overhauling. In many cases he can add years to his life by doing that.
