‘BAD ACTORS’WILE FEED THE GOOD ONES Semper Fidelis Class of the Speedway Christian Church Has a Good Idea to Promote Dramatics Among Its Own Membership. BY WALTER D. HICKMAN Tile “bad actors” will feed the good ones. That sounds like a most interesting idea. The Semper Fidelis Class of the Speedway Christian Church has divided its membership into two dramatic groups. The first group tonight at the church will present a comedy, “That's One on Bill,” and on next Friday night the other group
will present “Go Slow, Mary.” Three judges will decide which group does the best acting, producing, staging and the like. I have been asked to decide with two other judges the winner. The losing side must set up the better actors to a good dinner. Just what part the judges will have in the “feed” has not been mentioned. But I have arranged my time so that I will be present to decide what crowd has to put up the “feed.” Tonight the cast will be headed by Louis Trosky and Martha Leonard. X Indianapolis has many church dramatic societies and a study of them shows that several of them are making impressive strides both toward adequate acting as well as production. n a a LES BACKER MAKES REAL HIT AT KEITH'S With his four string guitar to accompany him Les Backer gets to you with his songs. This man has a natural voice that is adapted to the sort of songs he features. Sometimes the orchestra plays his music and sometimes it doesn't, but Backer sings on with beautiful ease. At the end of his program Backer sings a yodeling piece and goes on into what is known as the double yodel, which I understand is much harder to do. All of his songs are of the popular kind. The Welder Sisters and company

have a revue of the song and dance variety. There is some good dancing in this act. Bernie Dossitt, Joe Pastor, Arthur Cappo and Larry Kramer are the four men that comprise the dance team. These are all eccentric dancers and have some good things. The Welder Sisters do the singing, and one of their best numbers is a bird in a cage, represented by one of the girls who whistles while the other plays the violin. The revue is fast with mostly dancing. In “A Revue for Two” James Kelso and Belle De Monde have some good ideas, but their humor isn't the sure-fire kind that is necessary for this kind of an act. The best of their presentation is a burlesque on an opera prima donna and a tenor. The tenor is supposed to have a cold. They are both fair dancers. A little acrobatics and plate juggling with two of the members of the company doing contortions, comprise the offering of Yono and Company. There is a little boy in this act that is a good contortionist, and does his work very fast. The three men who do all the presentation make a pyramid and then all change position. This is good. Frank Hurst and Eddie Vogt have a comedy act called “Before the Bar.” They are both supposed to be lawyers and both pleading the same case. One of the men makes the talk and the other the motions. There is a lot of laughs in this.

The vaudeville bill is fair with a little too much sameness in the comedy element entering into it. At Keith’s today and tomorrow. (By the Observer.) tt a u ST. instructed delegation to the Democratic national convention. Governor Moody addressed a Jackson day dinner here Thursday night. “If I had the power to tell the Texas delegates what attitude they should take toward the various candidates for the Democratic nomination,” he said. “I would say that they should use their utmost endeavor to bring about the nomination of a man competent to be President, and who was in favor of prohibition and its enforcement.”
