SURVEY SHOWS HOOVER HOLDS 414 DELEGATES Secretary’s Strength Much Greater Than Others, Followers Say. Herbert groover’s Indiana supporters are making campaign ammunition of a Washington, D. C., newspaper’s survey of the Republican presidential race, crediting Hoover with an indicated vote at this time of 414 of the 545 delegates needed for his nomination at the national convention. Albert W. Fox, political writer for the Washington Post, compiled the survey, after personally investigating prospects in many states and conferring with national committeemen, party leaders and others. Fox now is in Indianapolis, sizing up the primary contest between Hoover and Senator James E. Watson for the State’s presidential preference vote, on which hinges the vote of thirty-three Indiana delegates to the national convention. Fox's account relates in detail the sources of his information and the bases for his conclusions. Indicated Vote Shown Hoover’s indicated vote, as it stood, according to his report, early this week: . Hoover Others Alabama 15 Arkansas 9 (11) California 29 Colorado 15 Georgia 8 (16) lowa 2 (29) Kentucky 29 Louisiana 12 Maine 15 Massachusetts 20 (39) Michigan 33 Minnesota 5 (27) Mississippi 12 Oregon 13 Rhode Island 13 Missouri 10 (39) New Hampshire 11 New Jersey 31 New York 30 (90) Ohio 12 (51) Texas 24 (26) Tennessee 19 Utah 11 Washington 17 West Virginia 10 (19) Wyoming 9 Total 414 There will be 1,089 delegates to the national convention; a majority, 545 or more, being necessary for nomination. Is Real Candidate “These figures,” said Oscar G. Foellinger, Hoover’s Indiana manager, “substantiate what we have been contending—that Hoover is a candidate in the true and full sense of the word. His entry in the Indiana primary for that reason was warranted. Indianians should and will have opportunity of voting their preference for him. “Had Hoover not entered the Indiana primary contest, Indiana’s delegates to the national convention would have gone, by default, to Senator Watson, regardless of the dissatisfaction and disappointment of thousands of Indiana Republicans.” While Hoover’s organization has set as its goal to sweep the State for the Secretary of Commerce and win all thirty-three delegates, observers agree that, regardless whether that objective is accomplished, Hoover has more to gain than to lose in the Indiana primary. Would Gain Votes If he should sass to beat Watson, but carry certain Congressional districts, delegates from the Hoover districts would be expected to choose in turn national delegates favorable to Hoover, who would vote for him at the Kansas City convention upon Watson’s withdrawal. On the eve of the State Republican convention, State delegates will meet by district and name two delegates from each district to the national convention. Seven dele-gates-at-large will be elected on the floor of the State convention. Survives Caesarian Operation By Times Special BLOOMINGTON. Ind.. HEALED his RUPTURE I was badly ruptured while lifting a trunk several years ago. 1 %ared tuy only hope of cure was an operation. Trusses did me no good. Finally X got hold of something that quickly and completely healed me. Years have passed and the rupture has never returned, although I am doing hard work as a carpenter. There was no operation, no lost time, no trouble. I have nothing to sell, but will give full information about how you may find complete relief without operation if you write to me. Eugene M. Pullen, Carpenter, 5708 Marcellus Avenue. Manasquan, N. J. Better cut out this notice and show it to any others who are ruptured—you may save a life or at least stop the misery of the rupture and the worry and dread of an operation.— Advertisement.
