FORD REPRINTS OLD M’GUFFEY SCHOOLBOOKS Copies of Famous Readers Will Be Preserved for Posterity. Bit ~NEA Service DETROIT, March 9.—Henry Ford, the man who swore a few years ago that “history is bunk,” has turned historian himself. He started in that role by restoring such buildings as Longfellow’s Wayside Inn to their colonial state, so that his fellow citizens could see just what life was like in the old days. He continued by reviving the oldtime dances. And now he has had reprinted the entire list of the famous McGuffey Readers—-those books that since 1836 formed the principal educational fodder for 122,000,000 young Americans. He has brought out the old books exactly as they were, with the original wood cuts and type dress unchanged. Ford is not selling the books, only a small number being printed to preserve them for posterity. Throughout most of America, except New England, these books became the standard readers for all school children. Except for the Bible, it is probable that no other book in America attained the sales that McGuffey’s had. Despite the tremendous sale of his Readers, McGuffey did not grow rich. He received a royalty of 10 per cent until he had been paid SI,OOO, and thereafter the books became the property of his publishers. After the Civil War the publishers voluntarily gave McGuffey an annuity until he died.

“Oh, dear, I do wish someone would invent a string or something which would keep the dress from blowing up above the knees on a windy day,” pleads Miss Adelaide Cohn, 3927 College Ave. And so Lee Williams, Times cartoonist, accommodated the young lady with the Loose Nut invention illustrated. Miss Cohn wins the $2. Williams suggests that since the strings would be a trifle cumber-

CLEAN TEETH Never Decay The 30 spaces between your teeth where food sticks and no brush can reach. If not removed your teeth turn yellowish and decay, bad breath and pyorrhea result. People who brush their teeth every day have pyorrhea because they can not clean between their teeth, where brushing is impossible. “Flossy” cleans between the teeth. Teach your children to use “Flossy.” The new way to clean quickly is to bite down on the “Flossy” and the silk slides easily in between, removes all genn decay and does not injure the gums.
