NEW DEMOCRAT FACTION SEEN IN LYDAY MOVE Labor Secretary as Manager for Fredrick Expected to Boost Vote. Reports that John E. Fredrick, Democrat of Kokomo, has chosen Arthur J. Lyday to manage his gubernatorial campaign today give rise to the belief in some political circles that anew faction is being formed among Marion County Democrats. Choice of Lyday, ex-Central Labor Union secretary, and active labor leader in the State, was designed to boost the Fredrick vote among tije laboring class, it was said. position as State Chamber of Commerce president drew criticism of labor during his recent senatorial race. In some Democratic circles It is predicted that Democrats who refuse to follow Leroy J. Keach, Democratic County chairman, will be attracted to the Fredrick camp. Deny Mayor Support Keach is said to believe that Frank C. Dailey, Marion County’s candidate, will “fill the picture” better than any other candidate in the governorship race. Former County Chairman Russell Ryan and William E. Clauer, former city chairman, are among those considered likely to swing support to the Ly-day-Fredrick element. “Straight laced” organization Democrats have refused to support Mayor L. Ert Slack, Democrat, because Slack has shown no inclination to heal the breach with the county organization by replacing city hall Republicans with Democrats. Slack Is expected to order a Republican “housecleaning' as soon as pending litigation over the mayoralty Is settled, giving him a clear title to the office. But the Democratic organization followers fear Slack will not name party workers to the city posts. Believe Slack for Dailey Organization Democrats charge Slack is trying to build up his own political machine at city hall through the aid of Coporation Counsel John W. Holtzman, Purchasing Agent Joel A. Baker. City Controller Sterling R. Holt and Ernest Frick, works board clerk. Although Slack declared he is “taking no part in the primary fight,” he is believed to personally look with favor on Dailey's governorship race. Dailey’s law firm, Miller Dailey and Thompson, represent the mayor in some pending law suits. Frick, who also is considered friendly to Dailey is said to have his eye on the Democratic County chairmanship, succeeding Keach. It is believed he would have the support of city hall Democrats and the Democratic Progressive League. In some circles E. Kirk McKinney, defeated candidate for the State Senate, is mentioned as seeking the chairmanship. Dog Dies on Duty By Times (Special MUNCIE. A passenger train going from Vologda to Leningrad was suddenly halted between two stations. The engineer, conductors and passengers alarmed, began an investigation. They discovered an owl of extraordinary size clutching the safety apparatus running along the train. It had apparently perched there for a free ride, and unwittingly stopped the train. UNCOVER PLOT TO KILLCALLES Prominent German Held on Bomb Charge. By United Press MEXICO CITY, March 9.—Details of an alleged rebel bomb plot, by which it was hoped to kill President Calles and former President Alvaro Obregon, were printed today in Mexico City newspapers. One story said the plotter intended to bomb Chapultepec castle, the home of the president, by airplane. The newspaper Grafico said that Max Holung, an inventor and prominent member of the German colony, had been arrested in connection with the alleged plot. Bomb materials and books regarding explosives were said to have been found. Holung told authorities his work was purely scientific and he pointed out he had numerous patents in the United States and Germany.
