U. S. CHARITIES SHUN OFFER OF GERMAN PRINCE Refuse ‘Gratis’ Concerts of Hohenzollern Arriving in N. Y. Today. V>lf United Pres* NEW YORK, March 6.—A second cousin of the former German Kaiser .sails into the United States today destined to be snubbed by the socially elite, who have not forgotten the late war. Although Prince Joachim Albrecht of Prussia, 53-year-old, is reported to be an accomplished musician, it is likely that his offers to play for charity in New York will be turned down. Five big New York Charitable organizations are said to have rejected the opportunity to gain thousands of dollars through concerts which the prince hoped to conduct free. Fear Withdrawls Heads of the organizations say they are afraid many large contributors would .withdraw their support in event money was accepted from a member of the former ruling faimly of Germany. Prince Joachim had sent word ahead that he would be glad to conduct several concerts by the New York Symphony Orchestra, donating proceeds to charity. His agents here, however, have met with rejections by all the big charities. They also have learned that no one in New York of social prominence has any desire to lionize the prince, in view of his connections with the Kaiser, although he and the former German monarch are said to be enemies. Press Agents Ready In addition to the troubles the royal visitor faces at the hands of society he will be met at the dock when he arrives on the liner Majestic, by a strange coterie of press agents and managers all claiming to be his authorized representative in this country. Among these is Prince Louis Alfonso De Bourbon of Spain, who has a crested letterhead signed in ink by the Hohenzollern prince himself, it confirms the Spanish prince's appointment. Another claimant Is Paul Sydow, impresario, who says he holds an agreement binding Prince Joachim to make no public appearances except under Sydow’s management. Edward Zeigler, assistant manager of the Metropolitan Opera House, told the United Press that he had received deposits from “Prince Joachim’s agents” for rehearsals and one concert at the Metropolitan.

TELLS OF WAR SPYING General Nolan Explains How Enemy’s Plans Are Learned. How the army intelligence di-. vision learns of enemy plans was explained by IVfUjor General Dennis E. Nolan of Columbus, Ohio, commander of the Fifth Corps area, in an address before the Indiana Reserve Officers Association at the Claypool. Failure of the Russians in 1914-15 was blamed by General Nolan, who was a member of the American intelligence division during the war, on the unskilled method of using code, and the fact that many important messages were intercepted by the Germans. Col. J. Ray Newcomb, president of the county organization, was toastmaster. Major Raymond Springer, Connersville, State president, introduced the speaker. SPEAKS AT DRY MEETING W. C. T. U. Speaker Says Referendum Would Show State “Arid.” A refex-endum would show Indiana dry by a majority of at least 300,000 votes, declared J. Kirby Risk of Lafayette, at a meeting of the Marion Couixty W. C. T. U. at the Y. M. C. A. here Monday. Risk denounced the old district caucus and convention methods of nominating candidates as “systems completely controlled by the breweries” and said “women of today owe their right to vote to the primary.” In Memoriam Notices IN MEMORIAM—In loving remembrance of our dear husband and father.
