Luca, baritone, all of them members of the Metropolitan Opera Company, will present a version of Verdi’s famous opera, “Traviata,” necessarily somewhat abridged, but including all the great arias, duets and trios of the colorful score. “Traviata" has always been one of Verdi’s most popular operas. Its liberetto, based on Dumas’ “Camille,” offers a dramatic story for which the most prolific of Italian composers wrote some of his best known music. Since the entire burden of the plot rests on the tliree principal characters and all of the chief musical numbers fall to them, it is an ideal opera to offer in concert form. “Love" will be the theme of “Cathedral Echoes," the new and already popular weekly vocal feature from WGY. broadcast every Friday night at 8:30. Charles Gilbert Spross, organist, composer and director, is director of the mixed quartet which is offering the “Echoes" program and Kolin Hagen, chief announcer of WGY, provides the continuity.
