LET US HAVE A PARTY AND LET DICK.SING ‘Beautiful’ Is First Vocalion Record of Dick Powell, and This Singer Easily Establishes Himself as a Favorite in a New Field. \ BY WALTER D. HICKMAN Want you to come over to my house and have a party with Dick Powell and his singing. Os course that is a promise* but 1 will ring true with that. In my life as a critic, I have only once met on a human plane this man with the voice of contact with everybody in the audience. It was a time that Charlie Davis remembered my name and
I was there. Both were human and real. And so comes your party. Dick Powell on record! Vocalion got this magnetic personality of a big song and put over on title—- •" Beautiful.” And here is my party—Dick Powell on Vocalion singing “Beautiful,” and on the other side—“ls She My Girl Friend?” And I heard a big piano done in the strain of today. I became worried. I called a telephone number. “Mrs. Emil Seidel: I am worried about a record. Did your husband play that piano for Powell?” I asked. The answer—“ Yes.” There is marvelous piano going Way up to a lofty peak in this Dick Powell record. Powell captures the heart and the tantalizing pulse of that moonlight of imagination. Hear the record with me—“ Stop, Hook and listen—etc.,” and afterWhile—“then everything is beautiful”—melody (and that piano carrying it all.” A And then—"—little bit bad and Sittle bit good" and “—beautiful—beautiful, etc.” And that’s the record. Did you ever play a record straight for over an hour? Well, my answer is that I did. tYes, and so! Here is the old days
TELL-TALE ARTERIES Are your arteries showing a tendency towards becoming hapd? Do you have any difficulty in bfeathing, heart palpitation or dizzy spells? Look out for high blood pressure 1 It’s a dangerous condition that may cut life short. Living at the pace we do today we put too great a strain upon our vital organs, especially the liver. The liver becoming “limp” or sluggish, fails to cleanse the blood of the poisons formed in food waste. Then a toxic condition of the whole system, with heart and blood vessels affected. The liver occasionally needs a little help and there’s nothing better for this, as doctors agree, than ox gall. Ox gall is a remarkable natural stimulant for the human liver, promoting its normal active functioning so essential to real health. Dioxol tablets are genuine ox gall in dainty and tasteless form, each tablet representing 10 drops of pure ox gall. To be sure of getting the genuine ox gall, be sure of getting Dioxol. They cost less than 2c each at good druggists, and a few make a wonderful difference. CrApTocf Take this ad to the rivvlvvl druggist named below and he will give you a free sample of Dioxol tablets. Try them yourself. See the splendid, quick results. One trial of Dioxol and you will want a full package! Special Agent: Haag Drug Cos. —Advert* foment.

of perfectly tuned Instruments and a voice that will make you dream. Am trying to tell you of a Gennett record—“ Are You Happy” with Les Backer (the chap I told you about in making records some days ago in Richmond) and as the record says “Acc. by piano, violin, cello, trumpet and guitar.” I don’t give a darn about the lyric. There is melody in this combination of voice and orchestra. I took this record out the other night to a friend whose home I was invited for dinner. We played it for one solid fifty-five minutes. Tonight as I write this before you read it—l have played it more than nineteen times. Try this record and dream. Dream, don’t forget to dream. I have lots of Brunswick, Okeh and Victor records I should tell you about. I will next week. Sure. Indianapolis theaters today offer: Elanche Yurka in “The Squall” at English’s: “The Thunderbolt” at the Murat; Mclntyre and Heath at the Lyric; Jed Dooley at Keith’s; “Metropolis” at the Ohio; “The Patent Leather Kid” at the Circle; “Old Ironsides” at the Apollo; “The Gorilla ’, at the Indiana, and burlesque at thel Mutual. —.
