CUT IN NAVAL BILL FAVORED BY PRESIDENT Concessions Made Because of Numerous Protests on Huge Sum. BY THOMAS L. STOKES United Press Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON. Feb. 14.—President Coolidge has sent word indirectly to the House Naval Affairs Committee that he will be satisfied with a considerable reduction in the proposed naval building program, whose size has aroused so much protest, it was learned today. The committee was informed the President will insist only upon twen-ty-five new 10,000-ton cruisers proposed, and is willing to drop at this time the rest of the program, which consists of thirty-two submarines, nine destroyer leaders and five airpraft carriers. The President is making these concessions because of the numerous protests coming to members of the committee, it is understood. The protests have become so insistent that the committee has decided to hear some of those in opposition, who will begin to appear before the committee Wednesday. Discussed in Executive Session The proposed changes favored by Coolidge have been discussed by the committee in executive session. They were laid before the committee by Representative Darrow (Rep.) Pennsylvania, who discussed the situation with President Coolidge at the White House. The reaction of public sentiment against the large expenditures proposed for the naval establishment, which would total approximately $4,200,000,000 in the next ten years, is beginning to reflect itself in Congress, with the result that insistence upon the seventy-one ship program would hurt chances of getting any material increases. The President insists upon the. cruisers, it is said, so the United States may have a bargaining point at the 1931 conference, when cruiser limitation will be the chief consideration. Opposition of France and Italy to abolition of the submarine will prevent the submarine question being raised at the conference, it is believed, and therefore the United States will not need to bargain on this point, and can consider a submarine building program later. Cost Would Be $500,000,000 The twenty-five cruisers proposed would cost about $400,000,000, and the additional personnel and airplanes necessary for them would run the figure not much over $500,000,000. Work going on would cost sl,500,000,000 over the nine-year construction period, 1929 to 1937. The annual appropriations being the total up to about $4,200,000,000. The $500,000,00 figure will not look so large to the taxpayer, it is pointed out. The opinion was expressed today that president Coolidge set the high figure so that the compromise may not go below fifteeen. This number would bring the cruiser tonnage of the United States up to the 300,-000,000-ton limit, proposed at the recent Geneva conference.

So Dizzy, Didn’t Dare To Stoop Biliousness Caused Lady Much Discomfort Until She Tried BlackDraught and Found It Brought Relief. “I had a billious spell. I wouldget very dizzy and have such a bad taste in my mouth,” says Mrs. Bertha Whitfield, of Townville, S. C. “When I would stoop over, I felt like I was going over on my head. “When I would get up mornings, I felt as tired as when T went to bed. “A friend told me how she had been helped by taking Black draught, and how she kept it in her home. So I thought I would try it, any way, which I did, and from then on I have used Black-Draught when I feel bad, get up tired, or feel that I need anything. Now I recommend it to my friends. “If I get tired and sluggish, feeling like I must sit around when I have lots to do, I take Black-Draught. A few doses seem to be what it takes to cleanse my system of impurities that may cause this trouble.” Black-Draught is a purely vegetable remedy, prepared from roots and herbs carefully combined, weighed and packaged by automatic machinery. Easy to take—no disagreeable after-effects. Sold in 25-cent and $1 packages at all druggists. Try it.
