BY ANN ALYSIS An old adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure certainly applies to the wrinkles which form around the eyes and fairly shriek to the world the fact that one is no longer young. Youth does not have wrinkles, you know. They may, and often do, have little creases, which are incipient wrinkles, but they are only shadows of coming events until added years deepen them into dreaded lines. The time to eradicate them is before they arrive, so to speak. Examine your face today, particularly the corners of the eyes and also the lids, the forehead. Are you frowning and perhaps squinting in an effort to see better? If so, your eyes need attention. Perhaps they are tired from strain. What causes this strain? It may be that your lights are not sufficiently strong, or that they are not well placed. If this be the case, correct it, and you have taken the first step toward preventing and puckering the eyes in an effort to see. When reading, never face a window or a lamp. Always sit so that the light comes from the side, preferably the left side. Observing this simple, common sense rule will do more to prevent eye wrinkles than all the soothing creams and beauty treatments in the world. Take it to heart and follow it faithfully.

Go after it immediately with Listerine, the 'safe antiseptic* Gargle with it full strength at least three times a day. Being antiseptic, it attacks disease-producing germs that lodge in the mouth. During winter months, it is a wise idea to use it systematically every day. It may spare you a long siege of illness. Lambert Pharmacal Company, St. Louis, Mo., U. S. A. BEAUTY HOW and WHY B B B DARKENING THE PALE BROW AND LASH

BY ANN ALYSIS A friend of mine visited a beauty shop yesterday and while waiting for her treatment, was greatly interested in the preparation being made by one of the shop’s patrons for a party to which she was going that evening. Now my friend Is an expert herself in the art of general makeup, but as she is blessed with dark brows and thick black lashes it is entirely unnecessary for her to improve upon iNature’s Job in that DRINK WATER TO HELP WASH OUT KIDNEY POISON If Your Back Hurts or Bladder Bothers You, Begin Taking Salts. When your kidneys hurt and your back feels sore don’t get scared and proceed to load your stomach with a lot of drugs that excite the kidneys and irritate the entire urinary tract. Keep your kidneys clean like you keeep your bowels clean, by flushing them with a mild, harmless salts which helps to remove the body’s urinous waste and stimulates them to their normal activity. The function of the kidneys is to filter the blood. In 24 hours they strain from it 500 grains of acid and waste, so we can readily understand the vital importance of keeping the kidneys active. Drink lots of good water—you can’t drink too much; also get from any pharmacist about four ounces of Jad Salts; take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast each morning for a few days and your kidneys may then act fine. This famous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for years to help clean and stimulate clogged kidneys; also to neutralize the acids in the system so they are no longer a source of irritation, thus often relieving bladder weakness. Jad Salts is inexpensive; cannot Injure; makes a delightful effervescent lithia-water drink, which everyone should take now and then to help keep their kidneys clean and active. Try this; also keep up the water drinking and no doubt you will wonder what became of your kidney trouble and backache. —Advertisement.

Same Worry Besets All Housewives BY MRS. WALTER FERGUSON The rich, as well as the rest of us, have their troubles. Here is Mrs. Henry Ford, with her money,-her mansions and her minions, enduring the same sort of worry that besets every housewife in poverty row. We are told by the newspapers that Mr. Ford does not relish his food. Probably his good wife urges him to taste a little of the spinach. I have no doubt that he will not touch carrots. Husbands are all alike. There’s no doing anything with them. Did anybody ever have one who would listen to reason? Can’t Be Done So, dear girl, if you hope to catch for yourself a specimen who will be easy to manage and agreeable at the same time, you might as well decide upon an old maid’s career, and thus avoid disappointment. They simply do not come made that way. The most striking thing about men is that they are forever talking about woman’s subtle influence and never yielding to it. No matter how amenable yours may behave during courtship days, how he may strive to please or hang on your every word, after the honeymoon

strange traits of character will assert themselves. From that time or| your problem will be that of every woman. Naturally Stubborn One of the things we should teach all prospective wives is that man is essentially a stubborn creature and that the only way to live happily with him is to let him have his own way. Do that and he will be gracious and kind and pleasant. But coax him to eat a little of the combination salad if he doesn’t want it and he will become as enraged as if you had trampled upon some gigantic masculine right. We may console ourselves, however, with the fact that Mrs. Henry Ford also wrinkles her brows m trying to influence the automobile king of America to give proper attention to his diet. When all is said and done, we are handmaidens still, we wives who spend our days anguishing over the strange vagaries of our men.
