By JOSEPH WASNEY United Press Stall Correspondent (Copyright, 1928, by United Press) WASHINGTON, Feb. 3.—“ Mental contagion” is chiefly responsible for the spread of crime in the United States, in the opinion of Mrs. Mabel Walker Willebrandt, assistant attorney general. Mrs. Willebrandt, public defender of women and a leader in the legal profession, told the United Press in an exclusive interview today that crime usually can be traced to three sources: 1. Effect of criminal associates upon persons who have no restraining home environment. This might be called “crime contagion,” or “mental contagion.’* 2. Economic pressure. 3. Dare-devilism.
