INDIANA'S NEW tAW ON DETOUR HELD POPULAR Maintenance Chief Speaks at Purdue Road V*-. School. Py United Press LAFAYETTE, Ind., Jan. 19.—The n6W Indiana detour law, which requires that all State highway runarounds must be maintained in good condition by the highway commission, has become very popular with the motoring public, and also is effective in increasing convenience to the traveling public, according to A. H. Hinkle, maintenance superintendents the Indiana State highway commission, who addressed the Purdue University road school here today. Hinkle explained, howdver, that some difficulty was experienced in trying to maintain suitable detours over county roads that are unimproved, narrow and dangerous to traffic, and argued that if cooperation can be secured in places from the county these detour roads could be placed in more suitable condition preceding closing of the State road for construction. Meetings Wednesday Included those of the county highway superintendents and of county surveyors and engineers. Matt Foster, Evansville, president of the superintendents, presided at their meeting. Speakers included W. E. Rogers, Huntington County; Nelson Isenhour, Boone County, and W. J. Miller, Grant County. Don Heaton, Fowler, head of the surveyors and engineers, had charge of their meeting. The principal speakers were two Purdue University men, E. L. Ericksen, structural engineering professor, and C. A. Hart, assistant structural engineering professor. Civil engineers were addressed by Lewis S. Bowman, Indiana State auditor. DRIVER IS ARRESTED AFTER HURTING TWO Aged Woman Struck by Car Is Not Hurt Seriously. •Miss Thelma Burton, 22. of 1512 N.
