PIOUS SUNDAYS ARE ASKED FOR U. Southern Congressman Urges Law for ‘Blue’ Sabbath in Washington. BY ROBERT TALLEY WASHINGTON, Jan. 13.—A 50-year-old .Congressman who represents a group of rural counties in the extreme southern part of Georgia would make Washington the most pious city in the United States on Sundays. Ho is Representative William C. Lankford, former mayor of the little town of Douglas, Ga., whose Sunday “blue law bill” for the District of Columbia is due for hearings before a congressional committee within a few days. Citizens’ meetings of protest are being held almost nightly. Wants *Blo6* Sunday The Congress of the United States is sort of a glorified city council for Washington, enacting all its local laws, so hence this bill. At present, Washington has Sunday theaters, Sunday baseball and other amusements. Also, quite a few small groceries and meat shops keep open on Sunday. Years of residence here as a Congressman have convinced Representative Lankford that this is very wicked and very wrong, so he
An Old Recipe to Darken Hair By JANICE RANDALL
Almost everyone knows that Sage Tea and Sulphur, properly compounded, brings back the natural color and lustre to the hair when faded, streaked or gray. Years ago the only way to get this mixture

was to make it at home, which is mussy and troublesome. Nowadays we simply ask at any drug store for “Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur Compound.” You will get a large bottle of this old-time recipe improved by the addition of other ingredients, for only 75 cents. Everybody uses this preparation now, because no one can possibly tell that you darkened your hair, as it does it so naturally and evenly. You dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair disappears, and after another application or two, your hair becomes beautifully dark, thick and glossy and you look years younger.—Advertisement.

Immunity?

Sir Esme Howard, British ambassador to the United States, has asked diplomatic immunity for his son, Henry Howard (above), 14, whose automobile struck Beatrice Deforest, 12-year-old daughter of a weather bureau employe at Washington. They boy is two years under the minimum age requirement for driving an automobile in the District of Columbia, police said, and any action to be taken will have to come throught the State Department.
has introduced a bill to make Sundays in Washington as “blue” as they are in his native town of Douglas, Ga. His bill would prohibit all work on Sunday except a few “acts of necessity or charity.” Further, it specifies Sunday as the particular day to be observed, and not merely just one day in seven. He Worked on Sabbath Led by the Seventh Day Adventists, whose Sabbath is Saturday, opponents of the bill are preparing for a hot fight before the committee. With them are the theater men and the liberal element residing in the Capital. Two years ago when Representative Lankford introduced a similar bill to outlaw Sunday labor, the Washington News posted a reporter to watch Lankford’s office one Sunday. The reporter observed that the “blue law” proponent, himself, worked that day. The bill apparently has slight chance of passage, but apprehensive Congressmen are hoping that it won't come to a vote on the floor. Such might be quite embarrassing for lots of them who come here from districts, where there is a strong “blue law” element. Family Lives in Cold Barn It u Timm It pro in] EVANSVILLE. BALK MAYOR IN BOARDCHANGES Park Group Approves Only Part of Dismissals. I Adolph G. Emhardt (Dem.), and Mrs. Mary Hoss (Rep.), park board members who refused to resign when requested by Mayor L. Ert Slack, won a partial victory Thursday afternoon when dismissal recommendations for the department made by the mayor and Park Superintendent R. Walter Jarvis were approved only partially. Mrs. Hoss voted with other board members to dismiss her step-son, Frank E. Hoss, construction superintendent, but succeeded in keeping Harold McClure, another relative, in his nosition of manager of the Coffin golf course. Original recommendations asked his dismissal. Board Member Michael E. Foley, spokesman for the mayor, failed to get a second when he moved to dismiss Recreation Director Jesse P. McClure and to place Charles Myers, Democrat, and Miss Mary Griffin in places of Charles Davidson, chief clerk, and Clarence Myers, secretary, both Republicans. Board President John Milnor, who conferred with the mayor w T hen called to his office during the meeting, asked Telford Orbison, board attorney, if he could second Foley’s motion and was told “no.” Orbison’s job later was combined with that of recreation attorney, William Quillin, Republican, and the new position given to Edward B.
