VICTOR HERBERT S “The Rose of Algeria,” a comic opera in two acts, will be presented as the Philco hour feature, broadcast at 8 tonight from WJZ, New York. This production, with book and lyrics by Glen MacDonough, was first presented in New York in 1908. It may be heard locally from WLW, Cincinnati; KYW, Chicago; WOW, Omaha; WHO, Des Moines; WOC, Davenport; WHAS, Louisville, or KDKA, Pittsburgh. The New York Symphony Orchestra, directed by the famous Walter Damrosch, will present four classics at 7 tonight from WJZ, New York, through the NBC Blue network. The four numbers are: Overture, “Midsummer Night’s Dream" Mendelssohn '•Young Prince and Princess,” from “Scheherazade” Rimsky -Korsakoff Variations on "Austrian National Hymn" Haydn Finale, "Symphony in B Flat". .Glaxounov Romantic tones of Spanish songs will float over the air from KFI, Los Angeles, to those who can tune them in at 8:30 tonight in the “Media Hora Espanola” or Spanish Half Hour, a regular Saturday night feature. Tune in WJZ. New York, at 2 Sunday afternoon and hear classical numbers by a good-wind ensemble composed of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, a combination, the quality of which is difficult to surpass. The selections are by Pierne. Beethoven, Geminiani and Saint-Sacns. The Crosley Bandbox hour at 8:15 Sunday night from WLW, Cincinnati, will be made up of four fifteen minute periods, one consisting of "musical farewells,” another of musical names of girls, a third of music composed by Wolf-Ferrari, bom Jan. 12, 1876, and the last, a group of lullabys. Familiar classics and excerpts from opera will be heard during the program directed by Don Amaizo, radiocast by WJZ, New York, at 9:15 Sunday night, rendered as orchestral and violin solo numbers. Tune in KYW, Chicago, or KDKA, Pittsburgh. The famous de Beriot concerto for violin and orchestra, known as the "Seventh Concerto," will be played over WBAL, Baltimore, at 6 Sunday night, by Michael Weiner, a young American musician, born ip Russia.
