“OFF the BACKBOARD By NORMAN E. ISAACS --
Adherents of the dribble in mid-Western basketball circles are feeling more at ease since the removal from the national rules committee of Dr. Walter E. Meanwell of Wisconsin. The personnel of the committee was altered at the annual conclave of the National Collegiate Association when it met recently in New York. The crafty Wisconsin net mentor long has been a hot-bed in basketball circles and his demands for
the abolishment of the dribble i left many mid-Western coaches in an uneasy frame of mind, since the style of play in this territory is mainly centered around that spectacular feature of the winter pastime. Meanwell’s removal from the committee was regarded as a triumph for the dribble by those favoring its retention. The rules committee voted to abolish the dribble, but no sooner had the action been taken than a storm of protests arose from all corners of the nation and a wire vote quickly rescinded the action. All in all, it now appeals that the dribble is likely to remain for some time a distinctive feature of America’s most popular indoor sport. tt a tt Backboard and the City JEd. waged their daily argument of the merits and demerits of the De i'auw University basketball team which meets Franklin Friday at Oreencastle. The City Fd. hails from old De Pauw and naturally we wound up on the Franklin end of a one-buck contract. * a a SATURDAY night will find the University of Notre Dame’s rambling basketeers in the neighborhood of Pennsylvania. The Irish are down on the books as the opponent of the University of Pennsylvania at the new Palaestra in Philadelphia. The South Benders would do well to get a good glimpse of Penn’s basketball structure and
bring a few cf the ideas back home to Indiana. Roughly, the Palaestra probably cost about $750,000, which is a neat pile of jack. Ten thousand persons can comfortably be seated and all in all it is a common -s en s e building. It has entrances from Thirty-Second St.,

Time was that when a man had his clothes made to his measure he was considered “up in the money” and looked up to as one on whom fortune had smiled most graciously. But those days have gone the way of the skin-tight pants and the bulldog shoes.
Today, the British Woolen Company offers the man who wants individual style and fit, all the advantages that good designing and tailor-ing-to-measure can effect, at a price he would pay for just an ordinary quick production ready-made garment. Tailored-to-Measure Is the Only Way to Get a Good Fit No two men are built exactly alike. A standard garment which fits one may be a misfit on another taking the same size and classification. The tailored-to-your measure suit or overcoat is the only accurate method of getting a correct fit since each garment is cut to your individual measurement and not for some clothes model.

seats and four thousand temporary parking places for tired customers a m m To get back to the basketball standpoint, we hardly think it necessary for the' Notre Dame aggregation to worry about their conflict. That is, of course, unless the Pennsylvania club recruits several members of the Pittsburgh outtit. a ALITTLE further up in this column there is the picture of young Prank Crdwe, one of the forwards on Coach George Keogan’s Irish quintet. Ample evidence that Crowe is well versed in his knowledge of the whys and wherefores of basketball is the fact that he hails from Lafayette, Ind. His brother-, Clem, also was a star of note for Notre Dame on the gridiron and on the hardwood. Clem piloted the football club one year and Frank apparently will lead the Irish net-snipers before he gets, his walking papers in the form of a diploma. a tt tt THIS evening Technical will stack its wares against those of the Kokomo Wildcats at Kokomo. Saturday the Arsenalites return home to meet the ShelbyviUe aggregation. Kokomo, in all probability, will be well prepared for anything that may happen. The Wild-
cats, we have no doubt, have heard of little Bert Davis, Tech floor guard, and will strive to keep him w r e 11 covered. Davis flashed his best form of the season last week against Shortridge and time after time set Shortridge hearts going pitty-pat as he swished the
Davis ball through the draperies. Davis is good. If you can’t make up your mind, take a peek at him Saturday night. tt St tt NO BUNK! Basket-bawls in the La Porte Herald-Argus carries the information that Goshen High School has a basketball player by the name

of Bunk Williams. Bunk, it seems, when once well started, develops into a one-man reign of terror and few teams in that vicinity seem to have found it possible to put him in a place where he can do the least good. In the nine games he has played this year Bunk has scored 132 points. He probably bunks with a basketball under his arm. THE MAIL TODAY. Indianapolis.
