Mayor L. Ert Slack has appointed George T. O’Connor, a Democrat, to succeed Gustav G. Schmidt, city plan commission president. Schmidt is a Republican and served during the Duvall administration. O'Connor, vice president of the Thomas Madden Company, has assumed his now duties. He lives at 4455 Park Ave. and never held public office before. Slack announced he desired that members select O’Connor president. J. H. Atherton, Butler College executive secretary, a Republican, was reappointed. Other members are Republicans. The plan commission is particularly an important body since abolition of the board of zoning appeals. The plan members pass on all zoning questions not brought before city council or park board. Slack desires strict enforcement of the zoning regulations and contemplates several moves to beautify the city from a zoning standpoint.

Despondency over lack of employment was given as the motive for the suicide attempt of George Kenyon, 1045 E. Michigan St., Sunday night. Kenyon took a small amount of poison. Police left him at home under the family physician’s care. State Policeman Lawrence Shields took a costly snooze at the George Sherrill saloon. 119 N. West St., late Saturday.
