CHRISTMAS IS PROMISE 0 F RAIDERS' CHIEF Liquor Market Has Only Bad Drinks, Public Wary, Claims Winkler. “This will be the dryest Christmas Indianapolis has ever experienced.” You have heard this before—but George L. Winkler, deputy dry administrator, says it’s true this time. Not that there is less liquor than before, but because the public is rapidly learning there is practically no liquor fit to drink. “Bootleggers are finding it hard to make a living,” Winkler said, “not because they can't get any 'iquor to sell, but because they can’t And enough customers. * Drinkers Become Wary “Exposure of counterfeit strip stamp and whisky label conspiracies, disillusioning their faith in so-called bonded whisky, and perhaps their own sad past experience, has taught drinkers to beware. “There is no dearth of liquor, such as It is, but from the experience of dry agents, there is practically no liquor on the market fit to drink. “Usually there is whisky, most of it bad, prepared for the Christmas •market. “But because of the education of the intelligent public, many bootleggers will have large quantities left over this year.” Price Shows Drop Winkler said the public reaction reflected itself in the price. Alcohol and corn whisky are selling from $1 to $2 a pint, he said, whi’e alleged bonded whisky may be bought for as low as $4 or $5 a pint. Bootleggers are becoming bolder in their operations, abandoning former caution, in order to make sales. This is reflected in the increasing number of bootleggers arrested, Winkler said. Most of the liquor on the market is sugar alcohol and “reclaimed” industrial alcohol, from which the /government poison has been partially removed, according to the agent. “Bonded” whisky, Winkler said, for the most part is merely “corn” or alcohol to which has been added coloring and flavoring.

Col. Charles A. Lindbergh was here today on his first important visit outside df the Mexican capital since his non-stop flight from Washington to Mexico City. He planned to spend the day in sightseeing. He was to return to f.fexico City in time to spend Christmas day with his mother at the American embassy. Lindbergh arrived here at 7 o’clock last night and was welcomed by the governor of the State of Morelos, municipal and state authorities. Tina decorations of the town were only the climax of decorations used along the path of the air conqueror. Even the most humble Indian villages along the picturesque highway in the rough country displayed decorations to honor the aviator. Lindbergh was taken to the hotel, where he appeared on the balcony before a great cheering throng below in the street. D%it T'nitcihPrc** MEXICO CITY, Dec. 24.—Mrs Evangeline Ledge Lindbergh will return to Detroit by the Ford airplane which brought her here to spend Christmas with her son. She will leave Tuesday morning.

YANKEES LIGHT YULE TREES IN FOREIGNLANDS Americans All Over Globe Celebrate Christmas Like Children. United Prmf> NEW YORK, Dec. 24.—While American children and their mothers and fathers await Christmas in every city and town in the United States today thousands of other American families, in the leading capitals and in isolated corners of the world, are busily engaged in bringing that same Christmas spirit to their temporary homes abroad. From London to Hongkong, from Tokio to the isolated missionary settlements of the South Sea Islands, Americans prepared for the sort of Christmas celebrations they knew in the United States as children. Spreads to England In many of the leading capitals of the world friends of the American residents caught the Christmas spirit and followed the lead of their Yankee visitors in plans to make merry. London homes were the scenes of the greatest Christmas preparations in many years. Interest in Christmas has increased year by year until reports this year show that' the English children will pay more attention to hanging up their stockings and awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus than ever before. The British Royal* family will observe Christmas tomorrow at Sandringham Palace. Geneva to Be Quiet Christmas in Berlin always is strictly a family affair and the streets are deserted, beginning tonight. Geneva, where the national feast day, “Escalade,” has just been concluded, looks upon Christmas as an anti-climax and the day promises to be quietly celebrated there. Paris, always more eager to celebrate the New Year season, will pass a quiet Christmas, although the fact that the day comes on Sunday this year, probably will cause more people to take note of it. Rome to See Manger Tokio, planning for the big holiday season which begins with the New Year, presents a busy scene. While American residents are in many cases having Christmas parties, many of these foreign residents are entertaining the native children. The Chinese New Year season, some weeks away, also outranks in interest the Christmas spirit in that country, although Americans in every city and town are planning the usual celebrations. Tourists and residents of Rome will view, in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore wh is, according to tradition, the original manger in which the Christ Child was placed at birth.
