NEW PAVEMENT IS OPENED ON U. SJOAD 52 Major Change Reported on State Highway in Last Week. Opening of new concrete pavement on United States Rd. 52, between Otterbein and Monmorenci, was the major change recorded in the State Highway Department traffic bulletin, issued today from the office of Director John D. Williams. Roads impaired by high water and freezing were reported being rapidly brought back into first-class condition and ready for use over the week-erfd. Surface conditions, detours, bridge run-arounds, etc., for the week of Dec. 24 to 30, are set forth in the bulletin as follows: No. I—Good stone surface from Rd, 50 to four miles north of Milan; avoid to Rd. 46. No. 3—Bridge run-around one mile, four miles and five miles south of rt. Wayne. Remove Kokomo Detour Rd. 6—ls flood waters cover road there will be a four and one-half mile detpur marked one-half mile west of Kendallvllle: also four-mile detour one-half mile west of Brimfield. Rd. 7—Short detour live and one-half miles southeast of Columbus. One-way traffic bridges at eight and ten miles north of Madison. No. 9—Run-around via Mt. Etna for bridge construction. No. 15—Four-mile detour Just north of Warsaw. .... IT. S. No. 20—One-half-mile detour at Rolling Prairie is over einder road. Detour starting at one mile east of La Orange to Brushy Prairie is narrow. U. 8. No. 24—Short detour in Kentland. Detour Just east of Huntington. XT. S. No. 27—Bridge run-arounds south of Portland and one mile south of Lynn. Traffic use cut-off between Lynn and Fountain City. Bridge run-around three miles north of Richmond. Detour two and one-tenth miles south of Richmond. No. 29—Run-around Just north of intersection of Rds. 29 and 26. Bridge runarounds at north edge of Knox and five miles north of Knov. Detour from four miles north of La Pcrte to Junction of Rd. 20 for construction. -U. S. No. 30—Short detour Just east of Hamlet, in Plymouth an# east of Etna . Green. U. 8. No. 31—Three-mile detour eleven miles north of Kokomo is replaced by a short temporary run-around. Bridge runaround one mile north of Peru. Detour Near Lapel No. 22—Run-arounds at ope and one- ' half miles east and ope and one-half miles west of Shannondale. Detour at east edge of Lebanon. Short detour around bridge construction near Lapel. Detour five miles west of Anderson. No. 34—Detours for local traffic Just east of Jamestown and between Pittsboro and Brownsburg. Through traffic between Indianapolis and Crawfordsvllle should use 52 and 33 via Lebanon. No. 35—Narrow road between Corydon and Palmyra. ,7. S. No. 36—Pavement between Danville and Indianapolis is open except short detour at Abner’s Creek, but shoulders are Incomplete. . No. 37—Drive carefully past workmen south of Grantsburg No. 29—Detour six miles south of Frankfort account of bridge out. tT. 8. No. 41—Gravel approaches to several new bridges between Vincennes and Sullivan. Detpur from four miles north of Attica to Boswell, and from Kentland to three miles north for paving. Detour at St. John to Dyer. No. 43—Detour four miles north of Crawfordsvllle. Bridge run-around at miles north of Romney. No- 46—Bridge run-around three and one-half miles east of Nashville. Bridge run-around five and one-half miles west of Bloomington. No. 50—As Rd. 150 is Under construction between West Baden and Paoli, Vincenncs-to-New Albany traffic should route via Mitchell, thence south on Rd. 37 io Paoli thence over Rd. 150 to New Albany. There is a local detour, but it is in poor condition, especially in wet weather. its granite toj>—an aerial buoy to warn aviators from shipwreck. W. B. Hartsfleld, chairman of the municipal airport committee, announces decision to install a huge flaring red beacon oft the peak o! the historic mountain. Pliers coming into Georgia from the north will find the first aerial beacon at Tucker, Ga. Prom there they will be able to find their way to Candler field, local airport. The light on Stone Mountain, on the side of which the Confederate
memorial is being carved, will be one of 2,000,000 candlepower and will be directly on the airmail route. Rain Damages Wheat Ats United Press PETERSBURG, Ind, Dec. 23. Some wheat fields In this vicinity have been damaged from 20 to 30 per cent by the recent hard rains. The rains were so heavy that some of the plowed ground was washed and the wheat covered in hard clay to a depth of six Inches.
