Wol a Set Age Limit The bill would prohibit the issuance of marriage licenses to bdys under 18 and girls under 16 without parental consent. It would require thaj application for marriage license be filed publicly two weeks before the> ceremony, "except in case of emergency.” Marriage of first cousins would be illegal; further, both parties would be required to show proof of good health. The marriage license would have to bear the names of all former wives or husbands and date of divorce or death. Mother Would Get Favor Divorce grounds would be limited to adultery, cruelty, abandonment, insanity, and conviction of an infamous crime. No divorce decree would become final until one year after issuance. Where custody of children is disputed, the mother would have a prior claim, but in any case either parent would be permitted to visit them. Proponents of the bill claim that it would prevent many hasty and unwise marriages and do much to improve home life. During 1928 new cars will appear in England at the rate of about 3,840 a week.

Fords Go Up Here’s bad news for the owners of those ancient Ford models commonly known as “Leaping Lizzies,” "Crippled Henrys,” "Junkers” and “Puddle Jumpers.” No more can father, or whoever pays the taxes on the numerous models scurrying over Indiana roads, escape by listing them for taxation at $5 or $lO. Any automobile which rims shall be assessed for at least S3O, the State conference of county assessors, meeting at the Statehouse,, decided today. The resolution was adopted by a margin of only one vote. They fixed this schedule for assessment of automobiles; 1928 machines, 85 per cent of factory price; 1927, at 70 per cent; 1926, at 60 per cent; 1925, at 50 per cent; 1924, at 33 per cent.
VOTE WIDER DELAWARE Street Will Be 70 Feet Between Creek and Twenty-Eighth. Remonstrance to the proposed widening of Delaware St. between Fall Creek Pkwy. and Twenty-Eighth St. was overruled Wednesday by the board of-works which confirmed a resolution to widen the thoroughfare from forty to seventy feet. The board also confirmed without objection a resolution to improve the north approach. The Delaware St. project has been pending for months. Action was rescinded some time ago because the project was not advertised properly. Work will not begin until spring. Slayer Pleads Insanity Du Times Svecial BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 22. Jess Bowman, Negro, on trial in Monroe Circuit Court charged with the first degree murder of Palmer Morris, Negro, is offering insanity as a defense. Morris was killed a few months ago during a drinking party, which ended In shooting.
