FLAMES DRIVE THREE FAMILIES OUTJJOMES Cigaret Stub Is Blamed for Fire Which Perils Lives of Six. Fires forced three Indianapolis families from their homes early today. Smoke dreams grew into a burning, chocking reality for Allen Moorehead, 22, travelling salesman and a sound sleeper, when a smoldering cigaret stub set fire to an overstuffed davenport at the Moorehead residence, at 3 p. m. Allen was deep in slumber in a rear upstairs bedroom. His mother and father, Mr. arid Mrs. J. H. Moorehead, slept in a room at the head of the stairway; his sisters, Elizabeth, 24, and Claire,-14, iff another, and his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Moorehead, 73, an invalid, in a front room. Dream Becomes Real Elizabeth was first to be awakened by the smoke. Her cries awakened other members of the family, excepting Allen. It took shaking and shouting to convince him that his dream was an actuality. A few deep breaths of smoke strengthened the dOnviction and he responded by throwing his clothing out the window. Flames were lapping living room furniture downstairs when the upstairs door to the stairway was opened, slamming it shut, the elder Moorhead carried his aged mother onto the front porch roof. Other members of the family jerked open frozen windows and were carried down ladders by firemen, summoned by a neighbor who heard Mrs. Moorehead’s cries. Fire was confined to the living room and extinguished with chemicals at a loss approximating SSOO. Other Families Routed * ' I Moorehead is confident a cigaret was left burning after midnight on an ash stand near the davenport, and dropped on the arm of the davenport to start the blaze. Two other families were driven from their homes in night clothing when fire broke out in a double house at 835-837 S. Capitol Ave. at the same hour. Joseph Hines was the occupant of the south side of the double, and I. Gerdocky the north side. All occupants, including Gerdocky’s five children, tumbled out first floor windows to safety. Roof of the house was destroyed with a loss of $2,500. Battalion Chief John J. O’Brien was injured about the head and neck by a falling ladder and will be off duty several days. Twenty-seven national automobile shows have been held ixv Chicago.

sore throat
Never neglect a sore throat. It is a warning that a cold—or worse —is fighting for the upper hand; At the first sign of throat irritation, use Listerine frequently—full strength. Immediately it attacks disease-producing germs in mouth and throat. Many is the cold and sore throat it has nipped in the bud. Use it systematically during cold weather months.
