Lenn Yeaton, 65, of 248 Koehne St., is in a serious condition at the city hospital today the result of a thirty-foot fall from an ice covered pole, Sunday. Yeaton, employed by the Western Union Telegraph Company, was working at 2217 Central Ave. He was injured in the back. ARGUE iLUE SKY CASE Vandagrifft Seeks Quashing of Securities Indictment. A motion to quash an Indictment charging violation of the Indiana securities act, against Virgil Vandagriflt, former works board president, was argued before Special Judge Alonzo Blair this afternoon. Receipts were comparatively low at 5,500. Animals weighing 180 pounds up sold in the bulk at SB.BO. The Chicago market opened fairly active around 25 cents higher, with most animals averaging $8.35 to $8,555. Approximately 35,000 hogs were brought to the yards today and 3,000 were held over. There were not enough lambs to constitute a market at the local yards. The top was quoted at sl3. Other livestock was generally steady, to lower. Pigs Advance Least Heavyweight hogs in the 250-350 pound and 200-250 pound classes sold in a range evenly 30 cents higher at [email protected]. Material in the 160-200 pound division was up 25 cents selling at [email protected]. Lights, 130-130 pounds, were [email protected], 25 cents higher and pigs advanced only 25 cents on the top bringing $7.50 @ 8.25. Packing sows were unchanged at s7@B. Cattle prices were weak to lower with beef steers nominal. Beef cows sold at $6.50 @8.75, off 25 cents. Low cutter and cutter cows were down 25 cents on the low end of the range selling at $4.50@6. WHEAT RALLIES INDEPENDENTLY IN CHICAGO PIT Corn Weak, Fairly Steady With Gains of Major Cereal. £,u United Press CHICAGO. Dec. 19.—The first independent wheat rally in a week, featured today’s session on the Chicago Board of Trade. Corn was weak, but held fairly steady on wheat’s strength. Trading was dull in all pits. Late in the session, wheat was up % cents to slightly over 1 cent; com and oats were around steady. Wheat opened slightly lower, with interest slack and most traders awaiting the Government report due late today. Advices from abroad spoke of good demand, however, and the market here firmed. Export business of around 300,000 bushels. Manitobas was reported from the seaboard. Receipts here were 21 cars and the cash market was % to 1 cent higher. Interest in the com pit centered on the Government repoit due today. Sentiment favored caution. Receipts here were 339 cars; cash com unchanged. BILL COLLECTOR ‘TOUGH;’ FINED No. 3 Head—See Puzzle Fights Young Mother, Boy in 5 A. M. Call. Battling a young wife and mother and tearing off her night gown in a hallway of her home at 5 a. Yn. is not an approved method of collecting a clothing bill. Such was the conduct of Earl Roberts, 2326 N. Gale St., on the morning of Dec. 5, according to testimony of Mrs. Pearl Stem, 35, of 4530 Washington Blvd., in Judge Paul C. Wetter’s municipal court this morning. Roberts is a collector for the Union clothing store, 118 N. Pennsylvania St. He came to the Stern home, and, knocking on the door, announced that he was a messenger. Mrs. Stem’s 11-year-old son appeared in his night clothes. Roberts grabbed and shook him, Mrs. Stem testified, and when she came to the rescue, also in her “nightie,” a scuffle followed, in which she was shorn of the garment. Officials of the firm, appearing with Roberts, failed to defend him when they heard the story. He was fined $5 and sentenced ten days in jail for assault and battery, on Mrs. Stem; the same for assault and battery on tiie boy; $5 for disorderly conduct and $1 for profanity.
