REALTY BOARD PRESIDENT HAS JOYJESSAGE Lewis Forecasts Year of Good Business Ahead, Despite Election. “The coming year will be a good business year.” This was the forecast of President L. H. Lewis, in his annual report to the Indianapolis Real Estate Board Thursday. Lawis prophesied that the election in 1928 will be less of a disturbing factor in business than ever before. “Times and customs and conditions have changed very materially in respect to election years in America in the last quarter century,” he said. “Subjects that formerly excited the entire populace hardly cause a ripple now. Greater and greater is the demand that we have more business in government and less government in business. Farmer Better Off “In looking into the future, one can not help taking into consideration that the farmer’s position has shown a decided improvement in 1927—that his position will continue to improve and make even greater headway in 1928.” The farmer will be a greater buyer in 1928 than in any two of the last seven years, Lewis forecast. “If the present Congress does its full duty toward agriculture, as we have every reason to expect, farming soon will be back to the enviable position it occupied before the war. “Congress also will play another important part because of the proposed reduction of taxes caused by the war, which, while necessary, have become more or less burdenome. Auto Industry Stabilized “Removal of the question mark from the automobile industry will have a marked tendency to stabilize conditions, especially in that line. The condition of any business as large as the automobile business has an effect on the whole trade fabric. “As far as realtors are concerned, we may expect even greater things

procedure must be followed before license plates can be issued. Check Up on Numbers “In connection with the purchase of new license tags, the car owner would do well to check over his registration card or title to determine that the official record of it is straight. It frequently happens that serial or engine numbers are registered, incorrectly through clerical or other error, and. then, in case a car is stolen, recovery is made that much more difficult. “It is a wise precaution to check over this information every year. In doing so, the car owner almost invariably wiU come across marks and numbers which remarkably facilitate identification of the car in case the need ever arises, as for instance, when the most prominent numbers are removed or defaced by a thief.” Between eighteen and twenty million British women were bobbed and shingled this year.

NEW BANK REPLACES CAGES WITH SMILES Lobby to Look Like Any Business House; More Friendly.' Bu United Press NEW YORK, Dec. 16.—With the opening on Jan. 1 of anew home for one of New York’s biggest banks, the abolition of steel cages and armored arrays of safes and vaults will become the latest national fashion in business. The new bank, will have the appearance of any modem business office and money transactions will be carried on at desks or over counters unprotected by forbidding screens. “New York financiers have reached the conclusion that bank cages never prevented robberies,” says the Woman’s Home Companion, in announcing the revolutionary action, “but such fixtures have always made the depositor or borrower feel more like a suspicious character than a welcome customer.
