Two Important State Net Games Saturday

Wabash-lndiana, De PauwPurdue Tilts Feature of Program. BUTLER VS. CONCORDIA Rivalry Clashes to Furnish Much Action. Ample proof that the basketball season has arrived In full blast will be exhibited Saturday when two of the outstanding State basketball games of the season are played Wabash will meet Indiana in a double header at Bloomington, and De Pauw will invade Lafayette for a contest with Purdue. In addition to these two annual rivalry tilts, Huntington will play Rose Poly at Terre Haute, and Butler will meet Concordia at Ft. Wayne. Indiana opened its season with a victory over Franklin, 34 to 25, while the Little Giants went down to a smashing defeat at the hands of Northwestern, 40 to 17. The Cavemen, however, were noted for their erratic play last season, performing at top form one night and exhibiting mediocre form the following evening. The Boilermakers are favored to cop the honors from De Pauw, but the Tigers may surprise the Lambertmen and force the Lafayette five to extend itself. The Boiler-

Taylor netted seven field goals and a trio of free throws. makers showed nice form against State Normal in its opener, winning 49 to 24. Rose Poly has won two out of three contests this season and is a slight favorite to take the laurels from Huntington. Butler, on its return trip to Indianapolis after playing Wisconsin tonight, will stop off at Ft. Wayne for a clash with Concordia.

Boilermakers Set for Court Tilts Bu Times Special LAFAYETTE, lnd., Dec. 16.—Intensive practice was to be held today by the Purdue basketball squad in preparing for the invasion of De Pauw in Memorial Gym Saturday night. Following the game with the Methodists, Purdue will have only a single day to work out for Butler, which will be Purdue’s opponent in a double-header basketball program here next Tuesday. The game with Butler will be the last before the holidays. The basketball candidates will cut short their Christmas vacation and return here to practice for the game with Wabash at Crawfordsville, Jan. 8, and for the opening Big Ten game, with Illinois at Champaign, Jan. 7. ARCADE GYM REOPENS The Arcade gym on S. Illinois St. is open for boxing business again, according to Mike Mitchell, manager. Sidney Glick, former lightweight, has been appointed instructor and efforts will be made to develop some young fistic talent. The gym also will be training quarters for pugs tuning up for bouts. Talent will be supplied for club and lodge entertainment. The gym is open every day from 1 p. m. to 9 p. m.

30 Sectional Net Meets for This Season’s State Amateur Title Tourney

Sectional tournaments are being arranged for the tenth annual Indiana Amateur Independent Basketball Championship. Thirty sectional meets will be held over the State and the winners will play at Tomlinson Hall here to decide the annual championship. "*The final tourney will be held on Feb. 23, 24 and 25. Wayne Emmelmann, of this city, who organized the association, has built up the largest State independent basketball association in the Nation. The first State tourney was held here in 1917 when eighteen State teams met on the Y. M. C. A. floor and the Y. M. H. A. quintet of Indianapolis captured the honors. Last season 664 teams took part and the Rushville Independents were crowned champions. Entry blanks now are being prepared for the sectional tourneys and all teams desiring to enter are requested to write Wayne Emmelmann, 209 W. Washington St. CENTER IS CHOSEN Bu United Press BOSTON. Walter Granted One More Week Bu United Press NEW YORK, Dec. 16.—Walter Hagen, noted professional golfer, has been granted one more week in which to complete the deal for control of the Rochester baseball club by officials of the International League In session here. Hagen appeared at the meeting Thursday night and presented letters and telegrams as evidence of his ability to raise the $40,000 needed to complete the transaction. Hagen made the original payment of $25,000, but Detroit backers failed to come through with their promised aid when the payment needed to complete the deal came due.
