EASY TASK TO SELECT GIFTS I FOR WANDS Wives Find Wide Range of Assortments, Prices in City Stores HHs Is another of the series of shopping hints for Times readers. Others ■will be printed to “tip off'* worried buyers. BY BETTY HEFFERNAN Hubby’s gift really should be chosen with care, because, though the poor man is generous enough not to mention it he really buys hris own Christmas present. This year, I have found that the stores have made a commendable effort to have a complete assortment of presents at all prices for all types of men. Surely this year the head of the family will find something that he likes and that is Just as important, something he will use, in his stocking. Handsome lounging robes, suggsetive of Adolph Menjou at his most nonchalant moments, are welcome gifts for the radio owl or, the inveterate book-worm. Many Dressing Gowns For the man whose Inclination toward color is suppressed by conservative business clothes, I saw a brilliant silk-lined robe of rich brocade, trimmed with satin and finished with a satin sash, gay enough for even a Charles Edward Stuart. Another attractive robe with a flattering man-of-the-world air is fashioned of washable terry cloth in a smart checkered pattern, with a three-notched collar and tailored pockets. Contrasting with this is an elaborate golden embroidered Chinese wrap. Pajamas of domestic silk and of Imported English broadcloth so fine that they really should be called "pyjamas,” so dear to English novelists’ heart, make interesting gifts that are sure to please meticulous husbands. Pajamas In All Colors The smartest pajamas I- saw are of heavy natural pongee, with a tailored English collar and a narrow coat belt of the pongee, making a useful lounging garment. For the young man, nothing will be better

ECHO OF OLD SCANDAL HEARD AT TERRE HAUTE Effort Made to Oust Official Who Served Prison Term. Bu 'Times SDedal TERRE HAUTE, Ind., Dec. 16. An echo of the Mayor Donn M. Roberts case of ten years ago, when the mayor, several city and Vigo County officials were sent to the Federal prison at Leavenworth, Kan., for election frauds, is noted here in efforts by county commissioners to oust Maurice Walsh from the office of inspector of weights and measures. Walsh was among those who served Federal prison terms, and the commissioners declare this makes him ineligible to hold public office. He refuses to resign, asserting the authority to discharge him rests with the State commissioner of weights and measures and then only for neglect of or incompetence in duty.
liked than a loose coated suit of bright colored broadcloth in printed design or stripes. Gifts for the v sportsman are abundant this year. A wool-lined horse hide coat, with a corduroy collar, will make an excellent holiday remembrance. The stores are carrying golf sweaters of soft Imported woolens In discreet all-over patterns or plain colors. For the traveling man, the luggage shops offer Gladstone bags in black, tan or brown leather, the popular "grip” in cowhide seal, walrus and shark leather. For the man who is constantly under fire for spilled ashes, the smoking stand is an appropriate gift. Gloves are welcome gifts for any man. The one-button buckskin in tan or gray is good-this year. Jewelry for the more expensive gift is always a welcome remembrance. Mesh straps for wrist watches in gold and platinum, cuff links and studs set precious stones, cigaret cases, in silver, green gold or platinum, flasks and belt buckles are the jewelers’ suggestions for the ideal Christmas gift.
