ASSERTS FARM TICKET WOULD BE 1928 VICTOR "7 Luke ' Duffey Speaks at Bureau Campaign Opening. Bu Time* Special WINAMAC, Ind., Dec. 14.—A farm ticket for control of national affairs would win overwhelmingly in the 1928 election, Luke Duffey, Indianapolis, former State Senator, declarerd in an address here Monday night opening the State-wide membership campaign of the Indiana farm bureau Regarding the present condition of the farmer, Duffey said: “His thick losses and thin profits have become the outstanding problem of the N&tion.” Attacking Secretary of the Treasury Andrew W. Mellon for what he called “a staggering waste” the speaker declared “Mr. Mellon and his aids look bad in figures. They show that while he was paying oft $6,000,000,000 of the national debt and to his tune of ‘prosperity’ hoisting the value of the American Liberty bond some $3,000,000,000, he was at the same time committing, through his lopsided free trade farm policy, a staggering waste amounting to approximately $15,000,000,000 more than he and his helpers had earned in his public service” Flood in Pike County Bu Time Special PETERSBURG, Ind., Dec. 14. Streams in Pike County are at flood stage, due to heavy rains of the past few days, and at some points bridges have been washed out and parts of highways ihundated. A large area of farm land is under water.

U. S. Judge Picked These Winners for Last Lines BY LIMERICK LARRY Federal Judge Robert C. Baltzell picked today s winning “last lines,” limerickers, so be careful how you discuss the choice! Larry doesn’t know much about such things, but it seems that it might be contempt of court, or something, to maintain that your “last line” was the best after Judge Baltzell has picked these. They are “the pissing links” to Limerick No. 10. Here is the limerick and the winning lines: A pilot who steered a mean plane, Headed straight o’er the wide, bounding main; When his gas gave out, he • Took a dive in the sea WAS SURE NOT A LINDBERGH, THAT’S “PLANE.” Dan Moriarity, 306 N. Arsenal Ave., a daily limericker, is the author and wins $5. A REAL PAIR OF WINGS HE DID GAIN by Robert Barnhill, R. R. H, Box 17-C, wins $3 for writing it. It seems to Larry that this is the second winner Barnhill has written. Bernice Thompson, 2210 W. Washington St., upheld the limericking reputation of the “fair sex” today by winning the $2 third prize with this line: AND HE COULDN’T “WRIGHT” AND EXPLAIN. Today’s limerick is No. 15. No. 18, the last, will be published Saturday. There still is time, however, to win some of Larry’s daily cash or the S2OB Stewart-Wamer console radio, givert by the National Furniture Company, 335 W. Washington St., for the best “last line” submitted during the entire contest. Read the rules and start today! 1. Write the cleverest and most fitting last line you can think of. 2. Contestants may use the coupon in The Times or may send in their "last line” on any separate paper. They may send in as many “las: lines” for each limerick as they wish. 3. The paper or coupon must bear the same number as the coupon whic’ contains the “last line” limerick as printed in The Times of that da 4. If any two or more contestants supply equally clevjgr and fitting “Is lines,” the judges in deciding the winner will take into considerate neatness and spelling. 5. Anyone, except employes of The Indianapolis Times and the Scripp' Howard newspapers and their immediate families, is eligible to ent„ this contest. 6. Remember, if you win a prize any day you will, without further work be eligible for the S2OB grand prize.

Don’t dally with a sore throat! It is a warning that you are probably in for a cold —or worse. # Go after it immediately with Listerine, the safe antiseptic. Gargle with it full'strength at least three times a day. Being antiseptic, it attacks disease-producing germs that lodge in the mouth. During winter months, it is a wise idea to use it systematically every day. It may spare you a long siege of illness. Lambert Pharmacal Company, St. Louis, Mo., U. S. A. LISTERINE the safe antiseptic
