AFFIDAVITS FLY IN HUNTINGTON CLASH
The score today stood two to one In favor of Huntington In the battle of affidavits between Mayor C. W. Snider of Huntington and John J. Brown, chairman of the State board of tax commissioners. Snider and Ford Paul, water works superintendent at Huntington, made affidavits Saturday, reasserting that Brown had said, “I don’t see why you fellows want to go into this when you can buy this electric light cheaper than you can make it.” The company from which Huntington would have to buy its power if the municipal plant were junked is owned by Samuel Insull. In addition to the affidavits by Snider and Paul, Arthur D. Sayler, Huntington attorney, made an affidavit telling of remarks by Judge Will A. Hough of the tax board, who also said that the city of Huntington could buy its power cheaper than it could make it. The affidavit battle started when Brown resented and denied a story printed in The Times, quoting Snider, to the effect that Brown did not feel inclined to authorize a $60,000 bond Issue to repair the municipal light plant of the northern Indiana city, because "y‘ou can buy your power cheaper.” Brown also denied that he had admitted to a Times reporter that he had made the remairk in question. The reporter also remains steadfast

in his assertion that Brown did make it. Harry O. Garman, consulting engineer, frequently employed by the Insull interests, filed a report with the tax board showing that it would cost almost 2 cents to make a kilowatt of electricity for lighting Huntington streets. An entirely different report was filed by John W. Moore, consultant for the city, who submitted figures showing that because the light plant bought steam from the waterworks plant it could make current for less than 1 cent per K. W. The Insull price is 1% cents for quantity usage. ASKS $30,000 DAMAGES Mancie Man Sues as Auto Accident Sequel. Bu Times Sveeial WINCHESTER, Ind., Dec. 12.
