PRIVATE TOLL BRIDGES MAY HEMJNSTATE Five Requests to Congress Are Made to Authorize New Structures. Bu Times Special WASHINGTON, Dec. 9.—Motorists who*.wish to enter or leave Indiana may And themselves compelled to pay tolls to private bridge owners at many points where State highways meet at rivers. No less than five requests have already been made of Indiana Congressmen, on the part of private toll bridge concerns, to introduce bills which would authorize construction of bridges to provide entrance into the State. At each of these bridges, of course, although they would connect highways built by the States with Federal aid, the motorist would be compelled to pay tolls. Congress must give its consent to the building of any bridges across navigable waters. Therefore, the promoters of these bridges must get bills introduced and passed before they can proceed. Five Bridges Urged All the Congressmen approached so far have taken the bills under advisement, wishing to consult the Indiana highway commission before they introduce them. ' Private toll bridges are projected Bt the following points: At New Harmony, across the Wabash River to connect with anew Illinois State highway. Two bridges are planned here by rival promoters. At Jeffersonville, across the Ohio River to Louisville. At Madison, across the Ohio River. At Lawrenceburg, across the Little Miami River to a point in Ohio. One of the features of the last Congress, so far as Indiana was concerned, was the fight between proponents of the bills for a private and for a public bridge across the Ohio at Evansville. Both bills finally were passed. Approved by Promoters Representative Rowbottoni of Evansville, who sponsored the private toll bridge last year, has been

approached by both groups of promoters who want to' build the New Harmony structure. \ A. C. Thomas, Democratic chairman of the First district, who lives at New Harmony, has circularized the Indiana delegation asking support for a bill for a bridge there. Rowbottom Indicated he has not definitely decided to introduce either bill. Citizens of Mt. Vernon want a bridge there, he said. The Lawrenceburg bridge and the Madison bridge are in the district of Representative Canfield of Batesville, who will consult the highway commission before deciding on his actions. Madison is very much in favor of the bridge, Canfield said. A similar course is proposed by Representative Gardner of the Third district, in whose territory the Jeffersonville bridge would be. NEW SCHEDULE FOR COLLECTING ASHESOF CITY Plan Will Go Into Effect Saturday; Say Change - * Needed.' Ash collection day for practically every home in Indianapolis will be changed Saturday, Truly Nolen, member of the sanitary board operating council in charge of collection, announced today. Shortage of equipment, due to the fact that no new trucks or trailers were bought this year, and rapjg expansion of the city made it necessary to redistrict, Nolen said. The change gives University Heights collection every Friday, instead of once a month. Other districts have had weekly collection regularly. Garbage collection days are unchanged. The new schedule: Between Fifty-Second and Fifty-
