REPORT INSULL READY TO YIELD 1 INREEDPROBE Action May Have Important Bearing in Smith Fight for Senate Seat. Bn United Press CHICAGO, Dec. 2.—The Chicago Tribune said today it had learned that Samuel Insull, public utilities magnate, and Daniel J. Schuyler Jr., his attorney, have offered to yield to the Reed Senate elections investigating committee, which cited them for contempt nearly a year ago. Insull and Schuyler, the Tribune said, have made a written oiler to answer questions regarding a $40,000 campaign donation by Insull in the State senatorial election of 1926. The offer, it was said, may have an important effect on the fight over seating Smith when the Senate convenes next week. Senator James A. Reed, Democrat, Mo., chairman of the investigating committee, addressed the Cook County Real Estate board last night. He mentioned the Smith case only incidentally, but denounced Secretary of the Treasury Mellon, a in Pennsylvania politics, for his' part in the fight over seating Willjam S. Vare, as Senator from Pennsylvania. After denouncing “fraud, bribery, and corruption” in the Vare election, Reed said: “It remained for the secretary of the treasury, from his position in the cabinet, to give to our picture a final touch of sanctity, when, with impious Insolence, he declared the gathering of the slush fund to have been as justifiable as the collecting of moneys for the Church of God Almighty.”
