CONTRACT PLAN fFOR SOLDIERS’ | CAREOPPOSED V. F. W. Chief Launches l Attack After Visit to Hospital. An attack on contract hospitals caring for disabled soldiers has been launched by Frank T. Strayer, Indianapolis, copimander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Strayer recently investigated several such hospitals, including one at Elgin, 111., caring for 470 soldiers and ex-soldiers. >• “Soldiers with mental cases at the Elgin hospital present the most pathetic scene I have ever cred,” Strayer said. "Big, strong men there sit all day staring ahead, their minds blank, their memory gone, life a loss.” Allowed $2 Daily The Government allows $2 a day for care of soldiers in hospitals contracting for the job. Strayer maintains that the sum is inadequate to care for the patient. There are no Government contract i hospitals in Indiana. “With 25,800 cases in all, this Government is too big and generous to allow any men to be kept in contract hospitals,” said Strayer. Attack on the system will be centered in the next Congress. In a recent letter to President Coolidge, Strayer outlines the stand of the Veterans of Foreign Wars On nine major points. Nine-Point Program They are: 1. A World War service pension of S2O to SSO a month for veterans. 2.. Completion of work to provide jroper hospital and out-patient care for veterans, and greater bed capacity for neuro-psychiatric patients. • 3. Consolidation of Federal veteran relief agencies. 4. Abolition of time limit for applying for compensation in the United States Veterans’ Bureau and on reinstatement and conversion of war risk insurance. 5. Urge elimination of the''personnel classification board and the | bureau of efficiency from handling j civil service employment matters. | 6. Retirement of disabled emer- j gency officers under same rights j offered regular service officers. 7. Urge passing of omnibus bills on pensions. 8. Separate department for air service. 9. Punishment of seditious acts against government. Sell your used car through The Times want ad columns. Call Main “'7O.

IBSEN REVEALS HIS SCHEME OF REVOLT The Little Theatre Society of Indiana Gives Its Most Remarkable Production of Career in An E'*emy of the People.’ f BY WALTER D. HICKMAN Ibsen, through the voice of one bt his characters in “An Enemy ol’ the People,” proposes a strange but honest revolution. “I propose to raise a revolution against the lie that the majority lias the monopoly of the truth.” The author permits Dr. Stockman to make this declara-' tion of war iii the fourth act of “An Enemy of the People,”
which was presented last night| at the Playhouse by the-Little) Theatre for the first time in Indianapolis. ... Just why “An Enemy of the People” has not been a choice diet on our theatrical menu since it has been written is one of those mysteries of the theater. It remained for Walter Hampden in New York this season to dust off this play and give it new life. And they tell me that the play is popular in New York. “An Enemy of the People” is a dramatic and comedy protest

They are the truths cf such advanced age that they are beginning to break up. And if the truth is as old as that, it is also in a fair way to become a lie, gentlemen.” It fails to George Somnes s he opportunity to put over this talk cf truth of Dr Stockman in the Little Theatre production of “An Enemy of the Feople.” Semites, both as director and as an actor, has can? fit the message of Ibsen. Dr. Stockman is a doctor and a man of science, who sees no good reason why the truth cf the

L0?!E BANDIT, NEW RUSE, OPERATE SUCCESSFULLY Takes Victims for Forced Ride, Robs, Then Ousts Them. It took a lone bandit, with anew ruse, five minutes to hold up two pedestrians Wednesday night and escape two police squads. -He obtained two watches and $23.50. L. G. Zollars, 1534 Park Ave., was standing at Fifteenth St. and Central Ave., waiting fer a street car. A man drove alongside of him in a large automobile, opened the door and thrust a gun at him with the commend, “Get in, buddy.” Zollars obeyed. He was given a four-block ride, then told to hand over his watch and $23 in cash. When the bandit told Zollars to remove his overcoat. Zollars said he couldn't unless he got out. When the door opened, he leaped out and ran. Police learned that five minutes before Harold C-eisendorf, 1331 Kentucky Ave., was standing at Fifteenth and Alabama Sts., when the same man stopped his automobile and inquired about a street. When Geisandorf stepped closer to hear, the bandit flashed ,a gun and told him to get into the car. After hauling him a half block around the corner, the bandit took a wrist watch and 50 cents and ordered Geisendorf to get out.

water situation in his home town ! should not be known. He fails to understand why the town officials should refuse to let the people know the danger. He fails to understand why the people brand him as an enemy when he tells them the truth. Isben makes it very plain but Stockman floes not really realize it until he says at the close of the play: “That the strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone.” Somnes has produced this Isben play in the period that it was written and he has v/iselv kept it from modern dress. The dressing of this play would do credit to New York j or any other important producing j center. I have seen Somnes in many plays j bout he reaches new heights in this | Isben play. The cast is easily the most satisfactory yet revealed by the Little Theatre. The cast of principals is as follows: Dorfr- Tno-'BS S'orkmci. md;cal officer of the b^-ths,.. .George Sotnmes Mrs. Stockmann. Elizabeth Sogert Schofield Petra, their danchter. a t"ch;Charlotte Howe yillf. t.ici- son William Allen Tito* Mo-ten. their son James McClure Peter Stock— >an. the doctor's elder brother. Fix Asleren. a printer Hardin J. Canlthaji There are many others who take part in the mass meeting. Outthe cast in addition to Somnes is the work of Ncrmaji Green, Dr. Hassberger, Volney Hampton and the Aslakscn of Hardin J. Callithan, who gives a performance which one would expect to see in the Walter Hampden production. “An Enemy of the People” Is a play of a real message and it is most timely in Indianapolis. It was a pleasure to note that Mayor Slack was a most invested member of the audience last night. ! This production surpasses anything that I have seen the Little Theater accomplished here. It is a real victory for this organization. Should play to complete capacity tonight, Friday and Saturday. The entire production reflects great credit upon Somnes both as a director and as an actor. a u * Indianapolis theaters today offer: • “Abie’s Irish Rose,” at English’s!
