NEW HOSPITALS PROPOSED FOR SERVICE MEN Congress Will Get Request to Provide Facilities for 5,000 Patients. By BOSCOE B. FLEMING Bis United Press WASHINGTON, Nov. 25.—Congress will be asked to provide .■about 5,000 additional hospital beds akr ill ex-service men. The appropriation sponsored by the American Legion and other service organizations, will take the place of the $11,000,000 measure which passed the House last session and was beaten in the Senate filibuster. There will be additions, however, totalling about 1,000 beds, and the bill this year is expected to'call for about $14,000,000. Many Ailing Mentally According to Legion rehabilitation officials, many of the new beds will be devoted to the care of mentally ailing veterans. Neuropsychiatric cases are increasing at the rate of 1,000 a year, and a continued increase is expected for some time at least. Coincidentally, the need for tuberculosis hospitals is expected to fall off. Cases have been stationary in number for several months, as the period during which tuberculosis patients generally get well or die has ended in most cases. About 25,000 World War veterans now are in about 100 hospitals. The veterans’ bureau has 17,117 in its fifty-one institutions, and the rest are scattered among various service and governmental institutions, and about 2,869 in private and State institutions which have rented beds to the Government.
Program Is Composed Chicago, two hospitals, 1,025; Chillicothe, Ohio, 200; Philadelphia, 1,000; American Lake, Wash., 300; Cloud, Minn., 200; Ft. Snelling, Minn., 200; Louisville, Ky., 250; Georgia, 400; Northern, Ohio (precise site not settled), 200; Tucson, Ariz., 100; South New England, 500; Ft. Lyon, Colo., 300. The last four are new from last year. CATTLE RAISING PAYS Wisconsin Farmer Sells SeventyFour for $16,181.
