NEW CHRYSLER IMPERIAL ‘Bo’ MODEMS OUT Many Improvements to Add to Performance; Has Longer Springs. Walter P. Chrysler and his engineers present today what they declare is the most notable car Chrysler ever produced—the new 112 horse power Imperial “80.” It is the most powerful standard motor car in America, as well as Chrysler’s conception of “the finest that money can build.” Overall length of the hew Imperial is 191 inches. The long springs, anchored in blocks of live rubber, and 4 the special Chrysler rubber mountings at the front and rear of the engine contribute to a restful softness and comfort of riding. Five Custom Models There are five Chrysler-built models. They are town sedan, five and seven sedan, sedanlimousine and roadster. Custom models by Le Baron, Locke and Dietrich—three America’s foremost authorities' in designing and building special bodies—round out the body choices. Prices range from $2,975 to $6,895. In- the new Imperial “80” are found all the features that have contributed so materially to Chrysler’s outstanding success during the I. st four years. J. E. Fields, vice president in charge of sales, stresses many new features. "Improvements and refinements extend throughout body and chassis,” he points out. “They contribute not only to the car’s finer appearance, but also to its perform-

Cabriolet Coupe Is Latest Whippet
The Whippet Cabriolet Coupa is the latest addition to the Whippet line of motor cars. This snappy model easily can be converted from a closed to an open model sport roadster, the weather proof top being collapsible. A rumble seat is built into the rear deck and will accommodate two extra passengers. The smart body colors harmonize splendidly with the upholstering.
ance. With full realization of the remarkable capabilities of the previous Imperial ‘Bo’ this new car is, from every point of 1 view, the finest we have ever built. Many New Improvements Inspection of the new car will reveal scores of improvements. Others in both body and chassis, can be noted only through its use of by a detailed study of its specifications. Innovations in manufacturing make each of the five Chrysler-built body models an individually custom-tai-lored creation, with new ideas and
many options in both body trim and upholstery of broadcloths, Bedford cord, mohair and leather. This custom idea is furthered by finishing all fenders to match the individual body tones.' It is accentuated still more by matching the colorings of bumpers, radiator shells, trunk and even tire covers to fit each car turned out. The buyer has the option of having disappearing glass panels built into the backs of the front seats in each of the sedan models. This feature converts these cars into either an owner-driven or chauffeur car in a moment. Outside finish is in new color blendings, with narrow belt lines. One experiences ~ surpassing sense of comfort in the long, wide bodies. New Front Seat Design Chrysler has fashioned the back of the front seat straight across the car, rather than following the conventional practice of curving it. Its engineers have devised a front seat that is equally as comfortable as the curved one, combining with that factor a full utilization of the width of door openings, both front and rear. This also permits the use of flat plate glass partition, rather than the curved type heretofore universally employed, obviating light reflections that bother rear seat occupants at night because of the curved glass partition. Doors are wider. Spend Life Changing Tires . Changing tires has no terrors for a -group of Oldsmobile workmen. Day after day their sole work is putting tires on rims. Other men do nothing but inflate the tires. They use an air hose with four outlets, each equipped with a nipple that holds to the valve • stem, thus inflating four tires at a time. Auto Factory Workers Buy Homes Three hundred thirty Oldsmobile factory employes are buying homes through the General Motors savings and investment housing plan. This permits them to make monthly payments on their homes and at the same time participate in the investment features of the plan. Illinois to Lead With State bond issues of $160,000,000, a gasoline tax, State license fees and Federal aid, It is estimated that the State of Illinois Will have a grand total of highway building and maintenance money exceeding that of any 1 other State.

RUBBER CHAINS BENEFITS TOLD Goodyear Product Popularity Is Growing. "While motorists are giving their attention to winter needs for their cars they should not forget the importance of chains,” declared W. C. Boetcher, Goodyear dealer at 52 W. New York St. He explained that his firm is distributor for Goodyear rubber chains, one of the most important improvements for winter driving yet developed. “Besides the long-wearing qualities of this new chfcin, there is the important fact that it is silent,” he declared. “No one likes to go clanging down the street with a loose steel cross-link hammering against the car fender. It wears the nerves of the driver and is irritating to pedestrians. “Then, too, there is the protection for the tire tread and sidewall which the rubber chain gives. The broad rubber cross-links guard against cutting or bruising the tire and are particularly suited for balloon tires. “Another point in its favor is that it is easily applied.” More Rubber Seen Sir Robert Williams, chairman of the Anglo-Dutch Rubber Plantations of Java, predicts that in the future, with scientific cultivation, an acre of rubber trees will be producing a thousand pounds of rubber, compared with an average yield of 360 pounds of today. and literature, Illustrated in colors. By SWEDE SWANSON A railroad engineer has to have many years of experience, and a clean record of safety and sobriety, before he is permitted to take the throttle of a locomotive at the head of a passenge’r flyer. What a contrast to many a driver who controls the destinies of his passengers as he sits behind a powerful automotive engine! And how far worse is the contrast when a boy or girl of immature age is permitted to guide a large, powerful automobile through today’s busy traffic! We wouldn’t think of traveling on a train that has a youth at the throttles While, in the latter case, many of us think nothing of it. Efforts ere being made in many States to legislate youth from behind the steering wheel; for it is realized that this is one of the great dangers facing the riding and walking public. However, little success has been attained in this direction. Somehow or other youth, inexperienced, irresponsible and carefree, may have its fling even at the expense of others’ lives. Many parents do not seem t<s care. Many in fact approve of youth’s daring, forgetful of their own responsibility. But what cah be done about it in a country where for the most part, no attention is paid to the sorts of drivers that bum up the roads? Only a few States have drivers’ license laws, and where these have been in force the danger of meeting with recklessness, irresponsibility on

the roads has been considerably lessened. ) Just because a mechanic puzzles over the front wheel alignment and pronounces it correct is no reason to assume that all is well. Even if he uses approved devices for this sort of measurement he may not' learn the truth through just one test. It is not generally known by car owners, and by some mechanics as well, that wheels can vary in alignment as the car is being driven along the road. This is caused by looseness in the king pin bushings, the wheel spindles or the tie-rod. Mechanics frequently test for looseness in the bushings and spindles, but overlook the possibility of loosenes in the tierod connections. Many front wheels, when jacked up, can be made to -vary in the amount of toe-in a quarter of an inch, even more, because of the loose tie-rod. Wheels in such condition are in line part of the time and out of line the rest. Os the twenty-eight State Legislatures to have compulsory auto insurance brought before them this

If Mexico continues its present rate of increase, it will have more cars per capita than any other country in the world except the United States, according to E. S. A straight eight sleeve-valve Voisin recently broke the world's record for twenty-four hours of continuous driving, traveling 2,724 miles at an average'speed of 113.4 m. p. h. For the. third consecutive year, Swisshelm & Parker, 544 East Washington St., are featuring King Non-Freeze Radiator Solution. “We have passed through the experimental stage,” said Swisshelm. “This product is now the best known substitute for the adorsome alcohol. “We find that if the hose connections are tight- and the radiator does not leak, this solution will last all winter with one filling. It has a higher boiling point than water and will not freeze at 20 degrees below zero."
