In the Stock Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK, Nov. 23.—Despite the ripples on the surface, there is no reason for doubting the substantial basis on which the stock market rests. There is a steady trend toward solid business improvement. The Herald Tribune this morning prints the full text of the recent Mexican oil decision. It rules that the petroleum law, which has been the cause of so much irritation between the two countries is non-con-fiscatory and non-retroactive. The broad policy of the ruling is considered an aid to American amity. I think this not only should aid the oil stocks, but should be regarded as more constructive feature for our general prosperity. As I view the situation the advantage remains on the long side. WHEAT, CORN SLIGHTLY OFF IN GRAIN PITS Bn United Press CHICAGO, Nov. 23. Reacting from Tuesday’s general upturn, wheat and corn dropped fractionally at today’s opining on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat opened % to %, cents lower; corn, % to % cent lower, and oats % to %c up. Argentine wheat news Tuesday was generally bullish, but this morning Liverpool and Buenos Aires were both lower, indicating that these markets did not take the Argentine wheat scare seriously. The South American crop is just at the critical stage and the conflict ing reports make for nervousness in all markets. Corn showed signs of following wheat again, as it did Tuesday There was little news in the pit, conditions remaining about the same. There were further indications of a revival of outside interests in oats this morning. The visible supply figure is very low and the market is technically strong. Provisions opened slightly lower. In the Cotton Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK. Nov. 23.—“ Opened easy, strong at midday and closed weak,’’ was the story of Tuesday's cotton market. It is hard to account for the way cotton refuses to advance on bullish news. I feel that It is a trading market until Fridev, when I believe the market will reveal its true character by really starting one wav or another. B" United Prexn NEW YORK, Nov. 23.—Cotton opened 11 to 20 points lower. December. 19.45; January, 19.48: March. 19.73; May. 19.87; July, 19.75; October. 19.24.

In the Sugar Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK, Nov. 23.—Today will be the first notice dav for December tenders, but it Is believed that this position has been pretty well liquidated. There Is some difference of opinion as to the number of notices that Jwill come out. some thinking that the balance of the outstanding long account will be gradually disposed of. while others look for tenders of from eight to ten thousand tons. The cables from abroad, while still reflecting doubt es to the outcome of the conference with the Java producers, lean to the belief that the result will be constructive. Bn United Press NEW YORK. Nov. 23.—Sugar opened unchanged to 1 point higher. December. 2.83; January. 2.89; March. 2.90; May. 2.98; July. 3.07; September. 3.14.
