STATE ROADS ARE IMPROVED IN LAST WEEK • ■ \ Removal of Half Dozen Detours and Run-Arounds Are Reported. Removal of a half dozen detours and run-arounds /were major changes in the State highway commission’s bulletin issued today. Director John D. Williams announces that this has been the greatest season in commission history. Pour hundred miles of road have been placed in the paved class, he points out. SHUMAKER IS SPEAKER National Anti-Saloon Meeting to Hear Indiana Man. Dr. E. S. Shumaker, secretary of the Indiana Anti-Saloon League, will speak before the biennial convention of the Anti-Saloon League of America in Washington Dec, 5 on “Weak Places in Law Enforcement.’’ About thirty delegates from Indiana will attend the four-day session. League officials are making a survey of Indiana ministers and churches and the W. C. T. U. in the interests of the convention. Ruth Remus, stepdaughter of George Remus, former Cincinnati bootleg king, is an important witness for the State in the trial of Remus on the charge of murdering his wife. Ruth was in the au.tomobile with her mother when Remus shot his wife and she struggled with him to defend her mother. DRAKE , (At Des Mclnes) Indianapolis to Des Moines—Go north on Meridian St. to Thirtieth St. Turn left on Thirtieth St. and keep west to 25. Turn right on 52 to Lebanon, Lafayette. Montmorencl, EosweU; 41 to Kentland: 24 to the Indlana-lUinois line; 8 to Watseka and El Paso: 2 to LaSalle; 7 to Davenport; 7 to Des Moines. Distance 513 miles. The road Is paved tp Montmorencl. It Is necessary to detour between Montmorencl and Otterbeln. Gravel to the intersection of Rd. 41 and paved to twelve miles west of Davenport, except five miles of gravel between Kentland and the Indlana-lUinois line.
