GROTTO TO PAY TRIBUTE TO 20 GRASHVIGTIMS Memorial Service Will Be Addressed by Indiana .Lodge Leaders. Memorial service for twenty persons killed in the crossing crash Oct. 14 will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday In the Murat Theater by the Sahara Grotto, Mystic Order Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm. The Rev. O. W. Fifer, grand chaplain of the grand lodge of Indiana, F. and A. M.; the Rev. Ambrose Dunkel, chaplain of the Indiana - State Grotto Association, and the Rev. Lewis Brown, chaplain of Sahara Grotto, will have charge. Members and friends of the bereaved families, officials and members of all Masonic bodies will join ■ in the tribute to the memory of the eleven members of the Blue Devil drill team and nine others. State President to Attend A nationally known speaker will represent the supreme council, according to word received from George Jerome Brenner, Saginaw, Mich., grand monarch. Lawrence W. Drapier, monarch of Sahara, will preside. , Raymond F. Murray, president of the State Grotto Association and past monarch, will represent prophets in the State. Senator Arthur R. Robinson, assistant rabban of tjie Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, will represent Indiana Masonry. Arnold J. spencer is in charge of the musical program, which includes sacred numbers by choral societies representing Masonic bodies. Sahara Grotto Pirate Band will play. Families in Front Charles G. Walsh, chief justice of Sahara Grotto, will act as vice chairman of the service. Past Monarchs Chester O. Martin, Oliver R. Wald, Othniel Hitch and Raymond F. Murray will be the reception committee for Masonic grand lodge officers, past masters and officers of other Masonic bodies and visiting MonLewis A. Williams is general chairman of the memorial committee, and Steve J. Fullen, captain of the Sahara Grotto guard, is vice chairman. Sahara drum corps, Cast and Revels will act as ushers under the direction of Master of Ceremonies Karl Erath. Kenneth E. Yates, ceremonial director, is assistant. H. A. Trowbridge, assistant sentinel, will be in charge of the stage. First twelve rows in the center of the theater will be reserved for members of the Drill team and of the bereaved families. Sahara Grotto officers will occupy the first box on the right, and officers of the Ladies’ Auxiliary will be in the first oox on the left. Visiting monarchs and masters of Indianapolis Blue lodges will be seated in other boxes.
PYTHIANS ENJOY DANCE Frolic Is Part of Campaign for More Members. Indianapolis Lodge, No. 56, Knights of Pythias, held its annual Halloween party and dance Thursday night at Castle Hall, 230 E. Ohio St. The Bird of Paradise Orchestra, composed of lodge members, played. The dance is a part of the membership campaign to initiate .100 new members before Jan. 1. 1928. A dance will be held each month, according to Robert Long, chairman in charge. ELKS SEEK MEMBERS Halloween Party and Dance to Be Held Monday. Indianapolis chapter No. 13, Benevelent and Protective Order of Elks, has opened its annual fail membership drive and will hold a Halloween party and dance Monday night at the club house, St. Clair and Meridian Sts. Saturday night dances will be resumed this week and will continue • through the winter. K. OF C. TO HAVE PARTY Children to Be Guests Monday at Halloween Fete. Indiana Council, Knights of Columbus, will give a Halloween party for children Monday night at the K. of C. Hall, Thirteenth and Delaware Sts. Gus Grieg, council lecturer and staff will be in charge. T. P. Harrington has been appointed chairman to assist in the state exemplification of the fourth degree in Indianapolis Dec. 4. ELKS TO ENTERTAIN Logansport to Be Scene of Party Halloween Night. Capitol City Camp, Modern Woodmen of America, held an open meeting Thursday night for friends and neighbors. Ben-Hur team gave exhibition drills. VETERANS ENTERTAINED Auxiliary Plays ,Host to Camp of Spanish War Veterans. Harold C. McGrew auxiliary, No. 3, United Spanish War Veterans, entertained comrades of MeGrew camp Monday night at the hall, 116 E. PARTIES HELD FOR WOODMEN Marion Camps Have Busy Social Week. Marion County camps of Modern Woodmen of America have had a well filled social program this week. Fortville camp held an entertainment and dance Monday night. The Royal Neighbors of that city entertained with a basket dinner. Frank Klepfer, special deputy, was in charge assisted by Cley Wiley, clerk, and Ralph White. Marion Camp No. 3558 entertained Tuesday night at the Woodmen hall. 322 E. New York St William Royse sang, and the drill team sang and gave a dialogue. George E. Hopkins, State deputy, spoke on "Fraternity and Social Activities.” Maple Camp No. 5563 entertained members and friends with the "Joy Tepters” ministrels under direction of David Killian at the hall, Thursday night. Capitol City camp degree team gave a luncheon for team members Wednesday night at 116 E. Maryland St. Degree work was planned following the luncheon. Danville camp is staging a campaign for new members following the initiation of eleven candidates Thursday night. District deputy M. T. Wright had charge. DE MOLAYS TO SERVICE Body Will Attend Memorial In Muiat Theater Sunday. Indianapolis chapter, Older of De Molay, has been invited by Monarch Lawrence W. Drapier to attend the Sahara Grotto memorial services Sunday in the Murat Theater. The fraternity will attend in a body. The drill corps will be in charge of Captain William Graybell. A meeting of the drill corps will be held Wednesday night in juvenile courtroom at the courthouse.
SHRINES BALL ON HALLOWEEN TO BEMASKED Grand March to Start in Egyptian Room of Masonic Temple. Nobles of the . Mystic Shrine, Murat Temple, are planning a mas--querade ball, said to be the most pretentious social event ever held in the temple for Halloween Monday night. Granville Richey is chairman and Garland Stewart is vice-chairman. The masquerade ball will be free to Shriners and their women guests. “This event is not for the families of members,’’ said Richey. No unmasked dancers will be allowed on the floor at the outset. One of the evening’s features will be the mystic maze which is guaranteed to give the Shriner and the “Shrineresscs” a thrill. Guests will undergo a close scrutiny as they pass through the tunnel a mile long. An entertainment program will be held in the social rooms preceeding the grand ball in the Egyptian room at 9:30 p. m. Favors will be awarded men and women having the jmost original, most handsome and "most comic costumes. Elaborate decorations are planned for the Murat mosque. PYTHIAN GRAND LODGE CHIEFS TO MEET HERE General Conference Called From 60 State Cities for Tonight. Grand lodge of Indiana. Knights of Pythias, will hold a general conference of subordinate officers from sixty Indiana cities at 6:15 p. m. today in the Lincoln. More than 160 officers will attend the conference, which is to determine the policy of the lodge along promotional and development lines for the ensuing grand lodge year. Thirteen sessions will be he J d in other cities until No. 21. More than 1.400 officers of Indiana lodges will take part in the conferences. The next meetings will be held in Bedford, Oct. 31; Evansville, Nov. 1; Terre Haute, Nov. 3; Gary. Nov. 7; Elkhart, Nov. 8: Fort Wayne. Nov. 9; Peru, Nov. 10; Muncie. Nov. 14; Connersville, Nov. 15; Jeffersonville, Nov. 16; North Vernon, Nov. 17; and Lafayette, Nov. 21. New Grand Chancellor Dolph E. Farr, Edinburg, will be the principal speaker in outlining his plans. Edinburg knights held a reception in honor of Farr Wednesday night.
