No Let-Down in Local H. S. Football Activities
Georgia Tech Aims to Mar N. D.’s Slate Crowley and Thomason Stars of Yellow Jackets; Line Has Power. By United Press ATLANTA, Ga., Oct. 26.—Bent upon marring Notre Dance’s clean slate, a powerful Georgia Tech eleven—sometimes known as the "Yellow Jackets,” but occasionally called the “Golden Tornado”—goes to South Bend, Ind., this week. Knute Rockne’s ambitions —and they are great this year—call for a decisive defeat of the Southern champions as an important part of the Irish campaign of 1927. The Notre Dame coach has so arranged his schedule as to include games with leading elevens of the East, South, Middle West and Par West. > Southerners Not Easy Prom all indications the “Golden Tornado” will be no easy victim. Georgia Tech beat Alabama, 13 to O, a fortnight ago, and should win the Southern Conference title. From a national viewpoint, therefore, the meeting of the Irish and the “Yellow Jackets” is one of the most important gridiron struggles scheduled for Saturday. Irish Determined Having beaten the Navy in the East, Coe, Detroit and Indiana in the Middle West, and with every prospect of victory over Army, Drake, Minnesota and Southern California, Knute Rockne’s charges will give everything they have to clean up the threat from the South. Crowley and Thomason Captain Crowley and “Stumpy” Thomason represent the chief danger of an upset and a victory for Georgia Tech. The one is an end, as capable a receiver of passes as can be found in the game today. “Stumpy” is a half back, a “ghost runner” whose long, swinging runs have brought about the downfall of the opponents of the “Yellow Jackets” for a couple of seasons. On form, Notre Dame will be an 8 to 5 favorite when the elevens line up at South Bend Saturday. It will be one of those situations so conducive to victory for the under dog, however, since the Irish have much to lqse and may be thinking about the possibility and the price of defeat, while the “Yellow Jackets” will be in there, stinging indiscriminately.

Interest Centers on Tech, Shortridge Battle at Irwin Field. THREE GAMES ON ROAD Manual, Washington, Cathedral Away From Home. City series time is here and interest this week in activities of local high school football teams is centering around the impending clash Friday, between Shortridge and Tech at Irwin Field, the opening game for the city public high school championship. Kick-off at 2:30. Manual, Washington and Cathedral also are to see action, but on the road. The Manualites will tackle the Lebanon eleven at Lebanon Friday while Washington will be at Carmel. Saturday will see the powerful Cathedral squad journeying to Jasonville for a conflict with the strong high school club of that city. Shortridge, on form, is an outstanding favorite to drop the Techites. Odds are ranging from 2 to 1 to 4 to 1, and the “point boys” are offering twelve points. The east siders have a noticeable weakness in the line and Coach Mueller has been working hard in an effort to strengthen his forward wall. Manual, enthused over its first victory of the year over Bloomington last week, is gunning for another scalp and may take the Lebanon team down a couple of notches. Washington has improved rapidly and is expected to down Carmel. There are some nice prospects at 'the west side school and the work of the team as a whole has been pleasing. Cathedral, after its clash with Jeffersonville, will return home to prepare for its homecoming encounter with Sheridan at Washington Park the following Saturday.
