butter until well reduced. Rub the curry into the veloute sauce and combine with the butter mixture, boil ten minutes and strain. Dilute the egg yolks with the cream and combine with the sauce. Curried Sardines Place one teaspoon curry powder, one cup cream, one-half teaspoon sugar and a few drops of lemon juice in a saucepan over the fire and stir until hot. Add eight sardines, heat thoroughly. Place the sardines on a hot dish, with a border of rice; pour over the sauce and garnish with sliced or fried apple and onion. Serve hot. Estelle V. Put all in a preserving kettle with a pint of vinegar, one cup of water, one teaspoon of salt, one teaspoon each of ginger, cinnamen and curry powder, one cup of corn syrup. CLOSE GAP ON U. S. ROAD 52 TO LAFAYETTE Last Detour Is Abandoned; Condition of Other Routes Given. Opening of the short gap opposite Thorntown on U. S. Road 52 completed pavement between Indianapolis and Lafayette this week. A detour had been in force for many months. Indianapolis road conditions were listed as follows in the weekly State Highway Department bulletin: No. 29 (Madison, Greensburg. Shelbyville. Indianapolis. Logansport. La Porte, Junction of Road 20 near Michigan City)— Detrour around construction just south of Greensburg. 1 mile of which is narrow. Runaround at I¥i miles north of Kirklin. Bridge run-around at Middle Fork. Detour lust north of Wheeling to Deer Creek for construction. Detour from Knox to junction of Road 30 account paving. Bridge run-around at 2 miles north of junction of Road 30. Detour from 4 miles north of La Porte to Junction of Road 20 for construction. U. S. No. 31 (Louisville. Seymour. Columbus. Indianapolis, Peru, South Bend. Michigan line)—Detour from Sellersburg over Road 33 to Hamburg thence over paved road from Hamburg to Cementvtlle. Bn Times Special LEBANON, Ind., Oct. 21.—Twen-ty-flve thousand dollars for twentyfour hours in jail—that’s what Miss Helen Hawkins asks in a suit for damages against the Selig Dry Goods Company, operating a store in Indianapolis. The case was brought to the Boone Circuit Court here from the Marion Superior Court at Indianapolis on a change of venue. Miss Hawkins alleges she was arrested on a false pretense charge at Indianapolis on instigation of the Selig Company, oi. Dec. 14, 1926, and held in jail twenty-four hours. The next day she was cleared of the charge at a hearing in Municipal Court.
