■EDUCATOR IS DEAD Plan L. D. Owens Rites Here Tonight. Brief., funeral services for L. D. Owens, 58, of 670 E. Twenty-fourth fit., director of civics for the Indian- , fcpolis schools and history teacher at Technical High School, will be field in his home at 8 tonight. The body will be taken to Bedford, Ind., for burial. Mr. Owens Hied Thursday after a long illness. Immediate cause of death was pneu- ’ pionia. Born in Avocd, Ind., Lawrence County, Owens was educated at Terre Haute State Normal School, t Indiana University and Columbia University. , He became principal of the El|Wood (Ind.) high school and later school superintendent. Going West for his health he taught in Colorado and Washington, returning here about fourteen years ago. He Was a supervising superintendent

LAWRENCE, Kan., Oct. 7.—The “Hothouse” number of the Sour Owl, University of Kansas humorous publication, announces this week a popularity contest by the Sour Owl to determine the Kansas University man who, in the opinion of the co-ed, is “The Answer to the Maiden’s Prayer.” The “golden apple” will go to the winner, with the added honor of ruling as King of Hearts at the annual K. U. Karnival in the spring. The Sour Owl avers that the apple is the one which Paris of Troy awarded to Aphrodite, receiving in return the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen.
