PASTOR FACES THIRD WIFE AT BIGAMY TRIAL Woman Pursued Him From Town to Town, Declares Carolina Minister. i Bu United Press CHARLOTTE, N. C., Oct. 7. Striking at the Rev. Wills T. Jordon’s “amnesia defense,’’ counsel for the State in his trial on a bigamy charge prepared today to diagnose his mental condition in court. The story of the pastor’s three marriage ceremonies—only one of which he recognized as legally binding—was told in court yesterday. As court convened today, Jordon slipped into his seat at defense table and met the chill gaze of his alleged third wife without a trace of concern. The prosecution expected to have Jordon examined by alienists in court. Mrs. Emma Landridge Jordon, complaining witness, denied Jordan’s story, told yesterday, of his alleged elopement with her. “There is no truth in his saying I hounded him from place to place,” she said. “I always had considered him a fine Christian gentleman and a worthy mate.” Jordon, however, asserted the first time he recognized Mrs. Landridge was when he woke up in a Chester, S. C., hotel and found her there with him. “My friends,” the pastor said, in addressing the jury, “I said to her, ‘who are you and what are you doing here?’ “She replied to me, ‘I am your wife. I married you in Charlotte.’ ” The pastor then told the jury he

Bu United Press WASHINGTON, Oct. 7.—Money paid out in obtaining a divorce is not a necessary business expense and therefore is not deductible when computing income tax returns. This was the opinion of the United States Board of Tax Appeals today in holding that Frank G. Robbins, New York, could not deduct $5,000 fees he paid an attorney for helping his wife in her separation and alimony suit aijd $1,750 he gave his own attorney for negotiating asettlement. PASTOR FACES GIRL’S CHARGES j Minister Is on Stand Before M. E. Conference. By United Press OAK PARK, 111., Oct. 7.—A verdict was expected today in the trial of the Rev. J. A. L. Warren, Durand, (111.) Methodist Episcopal pastor, charged with conduct unbecoming a minister. Mr. Warren took the stand before the committee of fifteen conducting his trial at the Oak Park conference of the church and declared himself innocent of charges brought by the father of Miss Hazel Lamb, 19, a member of his congregations. Miss Lamb testified at the trial. It was rumored after the end of yesterday’s session that the secret trial had ended, but this was denied by the Rev. L. F. W. Lesemann, presiding officer. He said another session would be held today. It was reported after the session that the credibility of prosecution witnesses has been attacked by Warren’s defense. The defense declared the charges were the result of factionalism in the church. Miss Lamb was understood to have said the minister made love to her several times and that he told her he would divorce his wife.
