NOTARY STEAM ENGINE HAILED AS BIGSTRIDE Experts Laud Invention of New Buffalo (Mich.) Man. Bit ftnlt&S Mtxß MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., Sept. 30. —A rotary piston steam engine which it* inventor declares will make airplane flights to Europe and the Orient mere commonplaces’ has been perfected by Dr. P. G. Beremand of New Buffalo, Mich., near here, and production of “the world’s greatest power plant” may start shortly, it learned today. The new engine is claimed to be the perfect solution of all steam problems. In it, a minimum of steam is used at its maximum productive capacity, giving unheard of power at low pressure. The engine runs steadily, automatically and without a governor. Its most striking feature is that it has but three moving part*. Without Vibration Dr/Beremand already has received contracts for the engine from hfcp.yerai prominent airplane manu■acturers, who state that it completely eliminates all vibration, Pnaking it the ideal motive power for airplanes. The engine will give to airplanes sustained flights of unheard of duration it is believed, and also will reduce the air-mile cost of passenger traffic to a point where it will be as cheap to ride in an airplane as an automobile. John D. Evans, chief engineer of the department of public works of Chicago, made the following statement at a meeting of several wellknown engineers at the Beremand laboratories recently: “Being a licensed steam engineer, I can say that this engine is the greatest thing that has ever been developed in the power world. I am confident that it will revolutionize present means of transportation and develop into a greater industrial proposition than that of Henry Ford.” , Auto Makers Interested Automobile builders also are considering using the engine for motor cars of all types, it is said, because it makes possible new and greatly impfored performance. It does away with gears, clutches, brakes and starter, as well as carburetor. It places driving and braking power on all wheels, practically eliminating skidding and affording quicker getaway and ability to stop almost instantly. More than that it eliminates 50 per cent of the usual upkeep of a car, according to the engineers who have examined it. [ The engine is very small in size, Uieing not more than four feet high And live feet long, in the size suitable for automobiles. It can furnish an enormous amount of power on fifteen pounds of steam. Less than one-half pint of oil is used in twenty-four hours’ operation. It

It is extremely light in pounds per horse power, much lighter in fact than the best internal combustion engine yet built. “Transportation is civilization,” declared Beremand in an interview today. “I believe my engine will make possible speeds of 500 miles an hour in absolute security. If I can succeed in doing this, I feel that I will have advanced human progress over 100 years.” Sawdust bricks, burned in place of wood or coal, have three-fifths the fuel value of coal. It is superior to cordwood, since the moisture has been removed.
