1,000 EXPECTED AT KIWANIANS’ STATE SESSION Registration on Opening Day 450; Banquet This Evening. Bu United Press LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept. 29.—New attendance records are expected for the Indiana Kiwanis convention which opened here Wednesday to continue through Friday. Registration on the opening day reached 450, with a prediction that today or Friday would show 1,000. The Kiwanians heard welcoming addresses today by Mayor A. R. Ross, Lafayette, and Mayor M. B. Morgan, West Lafayette. Other speakers today include President E. C. Elliott, Purdue University; H. G. Retoner, president of the interclub council; A. E. Kress, immediate past governor; C. E. Endicott, Indiana district governor, and Howard E. Smith and Dr. F. P. Hammond, governors, respectively, of the Ohio and Illinois-Eastern lowa districts. A banquet will be held this evening in honor of Governor and Mrs. Endicott, at which a Canadian flag will be presented on behalf of the Vancouver (B. C.) Kiwanis Club, and an American flag by Goevmor Endicott, as tokens of international friendship. The flag exchange is based on a suggestion by the late President Warren G. Harding. A golf tournament was held on Wednesday. Glen Harrison and William Kramer of the Attica Club won.

LIAR SAYS HE SLEW 45 OKLAHOMA INDIANS Recounts How He Achieved Task With Tomahawk Bu NBA Bervire PANA, 111., Sept. 29.—While motoring through Oklahoma recently, Carl H. Preihs was attacked by a band of hostile Indians, but he seized a tomahawk from one and slew forty-five of them. That is the story told from a speaker’s platform here by Preihs himself. The statement may be explained by the fact that he is secretary of the Central Illinois Liars’ Association. Business and professional men organized the club because they wanted a social organization that would be “different.” Once a month they get together for a session of well-told falsehoods, and the ones who tell the biggest whoppers are made officers. Members point out that they never mix their pleasure with business affairs.
