TREATY AUTHOR WILL ADORESS TEACHER MEET Dr. J. T. Shotwell, FrancoAmerican Relations Expert, to Speak. Dr. James T. Shotwell, head of Columbia University history department, who drafted the FrancoAmerican treaty under consideration by the State Department, will speak in Indiana in October. Dr. Shotwell will address Indiana Teachers’ Association convention Oct. 20, and speak at the Chamber of Commerce, Oct. 21, under auspices of the Indiana Council of International Relations. The Shotwell treaty Is In answer to the Briand proposal “that war shall be outlawed between the two countries by inclusive arbitration.” “Arbitration” will be the subject of Dr. Shotwell, an international authority. Supports Briand Proposal Mrs. W. S. Lockhart, Indiana Council executive secretary, said the speaker bureau will stress the importance of the Briand proposal and emphasize “arbitration” the fining year. Thirty educators, min(Bcrs and clubwomen are available ror speaking engagements in the State. Cash prizes of SSOO have been provided through Luther Trueblood for the first annual “way to peace” declamation contests for Indiana high schobl students. A series of local, inter county and State-wide contests on the subject of world justice and peace will be staged by the council. Tuition in seven church college.; and bronze .silver gold medals will also be awarded. The contest committee: Dr. Henry Noble Sherwood, Dr. Ernest N. Evans, E. T. Albertson, Rabbi M. M. Feuerlicht, Dr. Frank H. Streightoff, Miss Gertrude Brown, Mrs. Jack Goodman and Miss Anna May Daugherty. Falkenhagen cut some wheat on his farm near here the grain appeared on his dining table in the form of wheat gems. The previous record for the process was forty-five minutes. Falkenhagen rushed a small quantity of wheat from his combined harvester and thrasher to a farm feed mill, ground the grain twice, sifted the flour and passed it on to his wife, who made the germ ASKS KILLING PARDON Convict in Prison for Slaying Son of Editor Wants Freedom. JOLIET, 111., Sept. 23.—Anthony N. Billsburg, serving a Jy-year sentence in the Illinois state penitentiary here for the murder of John Connor Looney, son of John Looney, former Rock Island editor, has asked the board of pardons and paroles for an unconditional release. Looney’s son ms killed as'the climax of a long gang war. Later the father, called the vice lord of Rock Island, was sentenced to the penitentiary here in connection with another slaying and is still in prison.
