.FARM RELIEF FORCES MASS FORJYEW WAR Equalization Fee One Point on Which Rural Bloc Will Insist in Times Special WASHINGTON, Sept. 22. spite of President Coolidge’s veto of the McNary-Haugen bill, farm relief advocates will present a united front in demanding a farm relief measure of that type from the coming Congress. This statement, seen as meaning that the farm relief issue will be carried over into the coming presidential campaign, was made by Chester H- Gray, Washington representative of the American Farm Bureau Federation, just returned from a tour of the Middle West. Gray, who said that he has traveled about 25,000 miles through farming districts since the adjournment of. Congress, reported that farm organizations of the country are overwhelmingly in favor of inclusion of an equalization fee in any farm relief measure. Main Point of Difference Such arrangement provides the essential difference between the Mc-|Nary-Haugen bill 11111 types of farm W relief proposed by Republican administration leaders. A large share of President Coolidge’s McNary-Haugen bill veto message was devoted to an attack upon the equalization fee. Gray said the farm organizations probably will be willing to yield to the President’s views on certain questions, such as the commodities to which relief measures should apply, and the method of appointing a board to administer the plan. He was emphatic, however, in asserting that there will be no concession on the equalization fee. This

Veto Deemed Certain Since the President delivered his veto message there have been no indications that his opposition to the equalization fee has been lessened. It is regarded as virtually certain that he again will veto a relief measure containing this provision. This would mean that the farm relief issue would be carried over into the next presidential campaign. Gray said some farm relief advocates hope for such development, and to promote it will refuse to make any concessions to the President’s objections. He said, however, that the preponderant farm sentiment is in favor of making concessions which do not destroy the equaltization fee.

The present single Federal district in the State of Indiana is unwieldy, expensive and otherwise faulty, according to a statement given out today by a group of investigators who are sponsoring a movement among Indiana senators and representatives in Congress to divide the state into two independent districts, with an administrative office in northern Indiana.
